The Balaji Institute of Telecom and Management (BITM) is located in the educational hub of Pune, in Maharashtra. It was established back in the year 2002, then known as the Indian Centre for Telecom and Management (ICTM). The arch- educationist Dr. A Balasubramanian was behind the establishment of this institute under the umbrella of the Shri Balaji Society (SBS). That group has set up several other institutions in the Pune district itself. Some of the other prominent names include the likes of Balaji Institute of International Business (BIIB), the Balaji Institute of Management & Human Resource Development (BIMHRD) and the Balaji Institute of Modern Management (BIMM). There are other colleges of the group for the areas of arts, science, commerce and in law.
The BITM is located in the Tathawade block of Chinchri- Pimpwad town, which forms part of the Pune district. The total campus area of the complex is worth about sixteen acres of land. Some of the general course colleges of the Shri Balaji Society are affiliated to the UGC (University Grants Commission)- approved Savitri Phule Pune University. The courses at the BIIB however, are ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), as it is now an autonomous institution. As the name suggests, the BITM was set up with the express purpose of promoting the area of management in the telecom sector. Otherwise, management education is the primary goal here. So, the college offers the two- year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).
This PGDM may be undertaken in any of three major areas offered. These are for the areas of- Telecom, Telecom & Marketing and in Marketing & Finance. Several technicalities of the telecom sector are dissected in the first two of these PGDMs with the aim to bridge the gap and solve the problems. Admissions to the BITM is via the CAT (Common Admission Test). Post the results of the CAT being declared, shortlisted students need to appear for the PI (Personal Interview)- WAT (Written Ability Test) round. Some other recognized exams such as the MAT (Management Aptitude Test), XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test), CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test) and the MH- CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) are also considered.
There is another standalone course on Systems Management which has been curated in collaboration with the German tech giant SAP. This works for the areas of Cloud Computing and Analytics, besides conventional management topics. An MOU has been signed for SAP to this extent. The SAP Global Certification may be availed by the students enrolled here at the BITM. The academics here is designed highly innovatively. Beyond the theoretical lessons, several assignments, presentations and case analysis are pored over during the classroom sessions. The BITM has also signed on an agreement for mutual collaboration with Philip Capital which works closely with the SBS. They help in curriculum design, internships for students, final placement, research collaboration and for generating consulting assignments.
There is a scheme that runs on campus known as Leadership Training. Under this, specific training sessions are held by industry leaders to hone the leadership skills among the students. A National Business Convention has also been held at the BIMM. This is an annual event where prominent members from industry and the government assemble to discuss key business matters. Guest visits by insiders of the telecom industry and other corporate houses have also been held to this extent. There is also a common Induction Programme which is held for all the study areas. Here the common areas of study are pored over, so that the academic fundamentals are well set in.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. BIIB’s annual cultural fest- Drishti- sees a lot of the events held here. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
All this has led to the placement at the BITM go really well over the last few seasons. Some the top recruiters during this period have been the likes of- Aditya Birla Finance, Madura Fashion, 99 acres.com, Karvy, Kent RO, L&T Finance, KPIT, Kyocera, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance, ADM Agro, All Cargo, Allstate, AFCONS, Lodha Group, Axis Bank, CBRE, Cavin Kare, Nielsen, Oppo, People Strong, PNB Housing, CRISIL, Convergys, Radio Mirchi, RIL and many more.
