The Bharati Vidyapeeth (BVP) runs a group of institutions spread in different cities, and spanning a diverse range of academic areas. The first campus was begun in the city of Pune, in Maharashtra state. This was back in 1964, started by the renowned academician Shri Patangrao Kadam. Since then, the group has expanded to add more campuses in Pune itself, plus others in different parts of Maharashtra in the cities of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kolhapur, Sangli, Karad, Panchganj and in Satara. There is also a campus in New Delhi. And there is an international campus in Dubai, which is in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). The year 1996 saw the Bharati Vidyapeeth being recognized as a Deemed University by the UGC (University Grants Commission).
At present, the group trains students for courses on – Agriculture, Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Nursing, Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Environment Science, Catering Technology, Homeopathy and Hotel Management, besides a few more areas. This equals a total of seventy- eight schools and sixty institutes dealing with higher educations. A few of these are also into professional courses. Some schools at the K- 12 level are also operated by the group in Maharashtra.
The Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Pharmacy (BVCOP) was established in the year 1993, in the city of Navi Mumbai, near Mumbai itself. It has an acre- long urban campus. Courses are offered here right from the UG toll doctoral levels. At the undergrad level, the four- year B. Pharm. is considered the primary course. At the master’s level, the programmes are more specific and research- oriented. The entire academics at the BVCOP is run by a cohort of five departments, each with expertise in its own area. These are in the areas of- Pharmaceutics, Quality Assurance, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology and in Pharmacognosy. Doctoral programmes may also be pursued here. Admissions to all the programmes here are via the CAP (Centralized Admission Procedure).
Research forms another key component at the Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Pharmacy in Navi Mumbai. That is why the BVCOP Journal of Pharmaceutical Research gets published from here. This chronicles the major research findings on campus. Several other publications have been launched form the BVCOP. The institute also does a lot of third- party research for consulting assignments it receives from industry or academic bodies. Examples of these providers of research grants includes- University of Mumbai, Polish Ministry of Scientific Research, DST (Department of Science and Technology), Abbess Healthcare OPC Pvt. ltd., AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), BRNS (Board of Research in Nuclear Science) and the Lady Tata Memorial Trust.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Public transport, convenience stores and banks with ATM facilities are all accessible from the campus. There is a sports field where outdoor sports may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
All this has led to high ranks across platforms. The BVCOP has been placed as the 42nd best in the country by the NIRF. The placements have likewise gone good. Recruiters in recent seasons, includes the likes of- GSK, Cytel, Zydus Cadila, Uni Care, Watson, Meyer Vitabiotics, Flamingo Pharmaceuticals, TCS, Alkem, Cipla, Sandoz, Pfizer and more.
