The BLDEA’s VP Dr. PG Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology (BLDEACET) is located in the city of Bijapur, which lies in the state of Karnataka. It is named after the Bijapur Lingayat District Educational Association. This was started back in 1910 by Dr. P.G. Halakatti. It was later promoted during the 1960s by the arch educationist Shri B.M. Patil, whose son is the present president. The BLDEA runs multiple educational institutions in the state of Karnataka, mainly in the Bijapur (Vijayapura) and Bagalkot, as the association’s name suggests. A total of nearly seventy institutions are run right from the primary school till higher education levels. Academic areas are covered from right across the spectrum including business, engineering, medical, science, arts, commerce, education and of course law. It even runs a few polytechnics to propagate vocational education. The Sri Siddeshwara Urban Cooperative Bank was also begun by the BLDE Association.
The Bijapur- based BLDEA’s VP Dr. PG Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology is spread over twenty acres of land. It is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), located in Belagavi, also in Karnataka. This affiliation ensures approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). The technical courses in the institute are recognized by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). It has been accredited by both the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) and the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning an A grade rating in the latter. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with.
Courses are available at the BLDEACET in Bijapur, for both the UG as well as PG levels. At the undergrad level, the BE programmes are available for the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Automobile, Architectural, Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. The B. Arch is also on offer at the UG stage. At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. Tech programmes are available for the areas of- Structural Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Design Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and in Micro Electronics & Control System Engineering. Also, on for PG are the MBA and the MCA.
The entire academics here is run by a set of departments, each possessing expertise in its own areas. There are departments for each of the academic areas offered at the UG level, as well as for MBA and MCA. There is also a department for the basic sciences. This includes the academics for areas of physics, chemistry and mathematics. The college has also been honored with the tag of “Excellent Contribution in Education”, as proclaimed during the Karnataka Education Summit and Awards. It was jointly awarded by the AICTE, VTU and the NSIC (National Small Industries’ Corporation).
Research is another key component of the BLDEACET. Faculty members are periodically sent for doctoral research studies. Several workshops are also conducted for the theme of continuing education. he college is also into consulting projects. Many of these projects are handed over by government or the industry bodies. Some of the funding agencies for these assignments have been the likes of- DST (Department of Science and Technology), DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization), AICTE, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research), DMRL (Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory), VGST (Vision Group on Science and Technology) and the Government of Karnataka, besides others.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. A convenience store is also located within campus. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
The BLDEA’s VP Dr. PG Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology has been rated within the AAA category among engineering colleges, by the Careers 360 magazine. The placements too have picked up accordingly. Some of the key recruiters to campus over the recent seasons have been the likes of- Global Edge, Kirloskar, Anora Labs, Q Spiders, FACE, Monocept, VEE Technologies, Hinduja Global Solutions, Bosch and Syntel besides a few more.
