Thinking of Studying Abroad? Think the TOEFL® test & make your dreams come true
Since it's a government college and it's not well maintained as per the expectations, I have rated it as average. The classrooms are not technically advanced but there are all the basic facilities available. WiFi was not available until last year, this year it has been installed I believe.
I studied BCom back in the batch of 2016-19. The quality of teaching is average, but there are some great professors as well and some are not. I think there are in total 750 seats just for Hons courses which are offered by the college. The college comes under Calcutta University, No wonder it's a respected University but the system lags like anything.
The placements are not that good. Usually people take admission here incase they are pursuing any professional courses like Chartered Accountancy or Company Secretary or CFA. That's because the attendance is not stringent here. Still even if opt for placements it will be like with an average salary of 2 Lacs PA CTC. Companies like TCS, Wipro, Amazon seldom comes.
At the time of admission you have to pay Rs. 4410/- for Hons and Rs. 4170 /- for General courses and thereafter the fees is around Rs. 100 per month. Yes, its low because it's fully government aided College. Well, in terms of ROI, Yes it's worth it.
Since maximum students are after there professional courses, the campus life doesn't matter much any way. I would suggest to remain away from union and politics if you want to concentrate in your studies. NSS and NCC are pretty active here if you want to engage in activities.
You may go for it if you only want to focus on your professional courses else don't go for it.
This government aided college has all necessary infrastructure facilities like wide classrooms, ICT enabled classrooms, library, canteen, students' common room, students health home, Saint Johns ambulance, students grievance redressal cell etc. The classrooms are not very luxury. Being a government aided college normal lights and ceiling fans are installed in the classrooms. There is no air conditioning system. The classrooms have normal green board and there is no smart board. Wi-Fi is available
I think this college has a great reputation in conducting commerce related courses especially. The college has been serving millions of students since 1939. One of the pioneers of commercial education in Kolkata. The teaching staffs are really qualified and student friendly but the curriculum is not so updated and doesn't include all the recent developments like smart board ,commercial labs, microphone and sound box enabled classrooms.
The placement cell of this college is very much active. Every year multi national companies like Amazon, IBM concentrix, Tata consultancy services come to this college to seek freshers and to employ them in the corporate world But very few students are employed every year. Only 13-15% students get placed. Placed students get an average salary of ₹22000. Placement process is very simple but it is very competitive in nature. It issues notices in the website inviting students for application.
As it is a govt. aided college the annual course fee is very affordable. The college demands only ₹2625 per semester for Hons. candidates and ₹2250 per semester for General candidates. Though there are some concessions for sc, st, obc, poor( income certificate is to be submitted) and physically challenged students. The college also gives railway concession to the long distance students. As a student of this college I really fill the value for money is really reasonable.
The College campus is not so good. It looks like an old building but it has a great history. The college was the residential building of Umesh Chandra Dutta the great educationalist and pioneer of women education in India. The students common room has carrom, t.v, pool and many games that refresh students' mind. The students are very helpful and support staffs are very dedicated to their field. The college is situated in very close of Calcutta University and Calcutta National medical College.
The college is overall a very good govt. College. The college is affiliated with University of Calcutta and has been serving millions of students. I think this college is one of the best colleges in terms of commerce related studies in Kolkata. Students can select this college as a choice .
