Dairy Science College, Gulbarga is another constituent college at Mahagaon Cross, Gulbarga District was started in the year 2008. This is an institute of specialized education for the technology of milk and its products at this level. Situated in a large area of 108 acres this college provides the students a different ambiance to learn all about dairy. With total enrolment in this college being 94 and a faculty team comprising of only 2 people, the students are easily handled and exposed to practical exercises within the dairy farming field. The institution provides only one course in B.Tech in Dairy Technology and it is a four year full time programme.
The college have available and well-equipped facilities aimed at improving the learning environment and general achievement of learners. There are facilities in form of well endowed laboratory for practical purpose in nearly all areas of dairy technology. A well stocked library is an important facility that is always fully stocked to supply the student’s information needs. Dairy Science College Gulbarga offers only the B.Tech Dairy Technology programme which is a four-year full time programme. This mode of delivery also focuses the institution’s resources and its specialised staff on delivering knowledge and skills intensively in dairy science and technology. From the researcher’s point of view, the programme is a way of training students for the changing dairy industry while at the same time, focusing on the theoretical aspects of the trade as well as their implications in the real world.
Merit is the main criterion for admission to Dairy Science College, situated at Gulbarga. Admissions are given on the basis of percentage of marks scored in the second-PUC examination of Karnataka or any equivalent examination and preference is given to marks scored in the subjects Physics, chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. It means that the college allows the KCET scores for admissions being conducted in the college. These exams are standardised so that they assist in evaluating the ability of candidates in handling the technical aspect of the dairy technology programme.
