    About Department of Electronics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi

    Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi is one of the traditional electronics departments, started in 1975. Kochi, a city known for its pulsating life and commencing of the state of Kerala is home to this constituent department of CUSAT and providing electronics education and research input to the nation for nearly half a century. Currently, it has 7 courses at 4 different levels of-degree, relevant fields of specialization that enhance courses such as VLSI Design, Advanced Communication Technology and Defence Technology are also covered. The faculty of the department has eight members which provide necessary and close attention on its students for quality education. The co-educational institute is recognised by the AICTE, hence is capability of establishing high standard education within the institute.

    The students from the Department of Electronics comprise basic amenities that are essential in furnishing the class with modern day facilities that will improve on the achievements of the students. Cochin University of Science and Technology has well equipped laboratories which enable the students to have practical acoustic experience in most of the areas of electronics and communication engineering. A library with complete collection is a knowledge centre, which makes teaching learning resources easily accessible to the student in his discipline. The students are always connected rather than isolated and the department provides the updated computer resources necessary for learning. To those willing to have more balance between work and study, the college provides a number of sport amenities promoting healthy lifestyles and cooperation among students. Furthermore, the campus offers the faculty, staff, and students char for there cars to park and leave their vehicles comfortably.

    The Department of Electronics launched a total of 7 courses to facilitate semester 3 of the three-year B.Tech programme as well as the two-year M.Tech programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Such education enrolment includes undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programmes offered full time. The B.Tech programme in VLSI Design and Technology is most popular with the intake of 60 students while M.Tech programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering, VLSI Design and Advanced Communication Technology has intake capacity of 27, 18 and 12 respectively. The department also offers 25 seat M.Sc Electronics Science, M.Tech Defence Technology and Ph.D Electronics.

    CUSAT Application Process

    Application procedure of the Department of Electronics, CUSAT, is generally adopted in the following order:

    • The applicant must submit an online application form, available on the official website of CUSAT. The application form captures basic information regarding the applicant's educational background, personal information, and course selection.
    •  In addition to the application form, applicants must submit several documents.
    • The candidates need to pay the application fee as indicated through the options provided by the university.
    • Candidates can be required to appear for the respective entrance exams based on the course. GATE scores may be given consideration in some postgraduate programmes.
    • The department prepares a shortlisted list of candidates based on academic performance and marks obtained in the entrance exam.

    Admission eligibility depends on the course. The candidates usually need to have passed the last degree from a recognised university with the required marks or CGPA. For graduation programmes, students usually need to pass 10+2 with the core subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Postgraduate candidates usually need a bachelor's in science or engineering.

    CUSAT B.Tech Admission Process

    B.Tech VLSI Design and Technology: The department's most popular undergraduate programme with an intake of 60 students. CUSAT admission to the programme would likely be merit-based on a relevant entrance examination or 10+2 scores. 

    CUSAT M.Tech Admission Process

    There are some M.Tech courses with different intake capacities:

    • Electronics and Communication Engineering (27 seats)
    • VLSI Design (18 seats)
    • Advanced Communication Technology (12 seats)
    • Defence Technology (unspecified number of seats)

    These courses tend to be given admissions based on GATE scores, with a possible interview session. A suitable B.Tech or equivalent is needed in order to be shortlisted.

    CUSAT M.Sc Electronics Science Admission Process

    M.Sc Electronics Science: The capacity in this course is 25. CUSAT admission would most probably be on the basis of a combination of the candidate's performance in the undergraduate course and the marks obtained in an appropriate entrance test. The course is for candidates who want to specialise in electronics at the postgraduate level under a science stream.

    CUSAT Ph.D. Electronics Admission Process

    Ph.D. Electronics: The department provides doctoral level courses in electronics. CUSAT admission to Ph.D. courses generally involves an entrance test and/or interview procedure. The applicants should possess a master's degree in the relevant branch of electronics or allied science.

    CUSAT Documents Required

    Applicants must submit several documents, such as:

    • Marks sheets and certificates of qualifying examinations (10th, 12th, Bachelor's as applicable)
    • Entrance exam score card (wherever applicable)
    • Category certificates (in case of reserved categories)
    • ID proof and recent passport-size photographs
