The Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering (DCE) is located in Chennai, on a thirteen- acre plot of land in the Tambaram block. The Dhanalakshmi Education Trust was behind the setting up of this college, established in the year 2001. The college is affiliated to the to the Anna University, based also in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu state. This affiliation, ensures approval with the UGC (University Grants Commission). The courses here are also recognized by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). In addition, the DCE has also been accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation). It is also an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certified institution.
Courses are available at the Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering at both the UG as well as the PG levels. At the undergrad level, the B.E. degree is available for the six engineering areas of- Civil, Computer Science, Mechanical, Information Technology (IT), Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. Students are selected on merit basis for these UG level programmes. At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. E. programmes are available for the areas of- Embedded System Technologies, Computer Science and in CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/ Manufacturing). Admissions to these master’s level courses is via the GATE exam (Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering). The entire academics here is run by a cohort of seven departments. Six of these departments are for the engineering areas for which programmes are on offer at the UG level. The seventh one is the Department of Science and Humanities. This one deals with the English language, plus the fundamental sciences being Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Research is another very important area at the Chennai- based Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering. This is why, several Research and Development Centres of Excellence have been set up on campus. These have been curated with the participation of industry members, so that the research developed can be applied in the real world. Cisco, IBM, National Instruments and by the Nex G Tech Wireless. They provide certifications and a forum for networking to the students. The Departments for Physics and Electronics & Communication here have been acclaimed by the Anna University as a Research Centres. The DCE has also been an active player when it comes to working on consulting assignments with the industry. This is done separately by the departments. Some of the top clients for which such assignments have been undertaken includes- Orbit Edu Tech, Cosmo Gems, VKT Ginning Factory, Sigma pi Power and the Zentronics Transformers besides others.
The DCE has also forged useful alliances with industries bodies. These help in facilitating placements, internship opportunities, industrial visits as well as guest lectures by their personnel. Students, in this way get insights into real- world work challenges in their own area. Prominent examples include- Cisco, Oracle, NASSCOM, NPTEL, Infosys, 360 Ripples Solutions, Dell, MTAB, National Instruments, Vista Mind, Face Academy, Axis Global Automation, British Council, ABK and a few more. Besides these, Ashok Leyland, Voltech Engineers, Wimplast and Femto Logic are the industrial consultancy partners. A separate Research Fund has also been allocated. Substantial funding is also received from external bodies such as the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), DST (Department of Science and Technology), DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization), SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board) and the IMD (Indian Meteorological Department).
Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) has been an active forum here. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models. Some industrial bodies and corporations have even signed up as collaborators for the EDC here. This includes the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN), Tennex Consulting, MSME (Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises) and the ECIL (Electronic Corporation of India Limited). Another important initiative here, is the curation of the Skill Development Council (SDC).
Keeping in view the placements, a lot of trainings are held for the students. All this is organized by the Training Cell. The Placements have been steady over the years. Some of the leading companies that have recruited from the DCE in recent seasons includes the likes of- TCS, Cognizant, Hexaware, Infosys, L&T Infotech, Athena Health, Sutherland Global Services, Zoho, NTT Data, Amazon, HTC, Sanmina, Kaar, Mphasis, Syntel, CSS Corp, Mind Tree, HCL, IBM, Alstom, Aircel, Capgemini, Accenture, APA, Bosch, CSC, Delphi – TVS, Dell, Deloitte, Ericsson, Daimler, Ford, Huawei, Global Soft Solutions, HP, Honeywell, Mahindra Satyam, Mitsuba, Infiniti, Jus Pay, Tech Mahindra, Virtusa Polaris, Voltech and GE Capital besides others. All this have contributed to the healthy rankings received by the Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering across platforms. The Careers 360 magazine for instance has allotted a AAA rating to the DCE.
Careers360 shortlists over 5000 colleges across domains each year. Out of these colleges, only those colleges are rated/ranked which provide transparent data requested by Careers360. The cumulative scores of colleges are then calculated and they are divided into clusters as per their scores. Careers360 ranks private and government colleges separately as the support system of both types of Institutions is completely different.
