The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Nongpoh, is an autonomous, stand-alone institute focused on teacher education in Meghalaya, India. Located in the Ri Bhoi district, DIET Nongpoh offers classes as approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Following the national standards, the processes of selection in the institute are envisioned to select those who have the potential to become quality professionals in teaching. The District Institute of Education and Training admission cycle will begin a few months ahead of the beginning of the academic year that generally starts in the latter part of the year. The admission of students to DIET Nongpoh is based on marks received in the qualifying examination (10+2) and/or an entrance examination. District Institute of Education and Training may also utilise other selection methods as called for by the policies of the Meghalaya state government. This holistic process guarantees the entry of only that number of students who can be moulded into perfect teachers.
D.El.Ed programme at DIET Nongpoh is a two-year full-time course that readies the candidate for teaching elementary school level. The intake of 50 students into this programme makes it very systematic and specialised in nature. D.El.Ed admits students based on merit obtained from the qualifying examination, either through 10+2 marks or by performance in the entrance examination. The institute, based on the state government policy, may conduct further selection procedures. Candidates who successfully passed their 10+2 exam from a recognised board are eligible for this position.
