The Erode Sengunthar Engineering College (ESEC) is located in the state of Tamil Nadu (TN). To be precise, the site is in the town of Thudupathi, which is in the Erode district. The town is also adjacent to Perundurai. The college was established in the year 1996. The college campus runs over a total area worth eighty- five acres of land. The ESEC is affiliated to the Chennai- based Anna University. This affiliation ensures approval from the UGC (University Grants Commission). The college has also been accredited by both the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) and the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning an A grade rating in the latter.
A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. The technical courses in the institute are recognized by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). The Erode Sengunthar Educational Trust is behind the setting up of this college. It is a highly respected society within the state, responsible for several educational initiatives such as higher secondary schools and those catering to the matric levels. Online learning is another methodology that the college strongly endorses.
That is why the ESEC has also signed up for the NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning). Courses are offered here at the Erode Sengunthar Engineering College, for both the UG as well as PG levels. At the undergrad level, B.E. programmes are available for the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Bio Medical, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation and for Electronics & Communication. The one for Bio Medical has just been introduced for the 2018- 19 session. The B. Tech may be availed in Chemical Engineering. Another for the area of Information Technology has been mooted for the 2019- 20 session, subject to approval by the authorities.
At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. E. programmes are available for the areas of- Environmental Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Safety Engineering, Applied Electronics, Computer Science & Engineering and for Power Electronics & Drives. In addition, one can also opt for the professional courses of MBA or MCA here. Admissions to these programmes is via national and state- level recognized entrance exams. Admissions to the various programmes at the UG level, is via the TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) paper. At the master’s level the GATE exam (Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering) suffices.
The entire academics at the ESEC is run by a cohort of thirteen academic departments, each with expertise in its own area. Ten of these seven departments are for the areas in which the B.E. or B. Tech degrees may be pursued in here. Two more are for the MBA and the MCA respectively. The thirteenth one is the Department of Sciences and Humanities. This deals with the English language courses and the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics. Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) has been an active forum here.
It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models. For the outreach purpose, there is even a Career Guidance Cell. Research too plays a very important role, here at the Erode Sengunthar Engineering College. Thus, there is a separate Research and Development Cell to look after all this. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
The ESEC has also taken up memberships of several professional bodies. These help in developing students more holistically. Some of these bodies here are the ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education), CSI (Computer Society of India), IIChE (Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers), IETE (Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers), IEI (Institute of Engineers, India), IIPE (Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy), ICI (Indian Concrete Institute), and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). The ESEC also acts as a remote learning centre of the IIT Bombay. All this has immensely helped during the campus interview processes as handled by the Placement and Training Cell.
Some of the key recruiters over the last few seasons have been the likes of Just Dial, Soft Square, AB Academy, DHFL, Amazon, JK Construction, TCS, Cognizant, Voltech, NISSI, Wipro, Polaris, Info View, AIS, Tech Mahindra, NTT Data, VVDN, HCL, TNQ, Barclays, HGS, Infosys, VEE Technologies, RIL, Airtel, CSS Corp, VWL, Accenture and many more. Campus life is also one of fun here. Several clubs and societies thrive here, founded for purposes of student welfare and entertainment. The college has been rewarded with high rankings as a result of all this. The Careers 360 magazine has placed the ESEC within the AAA+ category among engineering colleges.
Careers360 shortlists over 5000 colleges across domains each year. Out of these colleges, only those colleges are rated/ranked which provide transparent data requested by Careers360. The cumulative scores of colleges are then calculated and they are divided into clusters as per their scores. Careers360 ranks private and government colleges separately as the support system of both types of Institutions is completely different.
