Affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Government College, Barsar was started in the year 2007 in Barsar, Himachal Pradesh. Already established in a campus area of 8.12 acres this institution provides a wide array of undergraduate and post graduate courses. The college has 1,145 students and 15 faculty members prepare a right environment for enhanced academic achievements and individual developments. Government College, Barsar is also accredited from National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) which is a testament that, the college really cares for the students and its quality education. The college provides 7 courses under six degree programmes that help students develop academic focus and relevant career objectives.

Government College offers several units that would complement the course ing process of the students of the college. Accommodation, educational facilities and sports facilities are other facilities where Competition is highlighted in that students are allowed to play certain games such as athletics, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, boxing, table tennis and badminton. It boasts of success therein as a product of the college’s inter and intra college/University youths festivals. The library has a collection of about 1,925 books for students’ use with additional encyclopedias, dictionaries, and subscriptions to newspapers, magazines, and periodicals as well as reference materials. Besides, the college has well-equipped laboratories, proper IT facilities, broadband facility, well-equipped computer and internet services throughout the campus. A cafeteria coupled with transport facility enhances the facility available in the campus life.

Government College, Barsar has a total of 7 discipline courses and all the course offeres are full time course. The programmes offered have conventional undergraduate programmes like B.A., B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, and BCA, and a postgraduate diploma in computer applications (PGDCA). The total number of intakes for the college is 1,145 and each programme can accommodate aspiring students. The college may not have latest data as far as the pre Graduation and post Graduation enrollment strength is concerned but definitely its education stream is visible in its variety of courses and large number of student intake.

Government College, Barsar follows strictly merit base with its selections with reference to the marks scored in the relevant examinations. In B.A., B.Com and B.Sc for undergraduate it’s the 10 + 2 examination for which students are offered admissions. Schedules of the BBA and BCA programmes are also the same in terms of admitting students on the basis of merit in the 10+2 examination. 

For the admission to the PGDCA programme there is no entrance examination, the selection is purely on merit basis, the merit being calculated on the basis of marks secured by the student in the qualifying examination. Unfortunately, there are no fixed dates for admissions and anyone interested in joining the college is encouraged to visit the college website or the admission office to get the latest calendar on when to apply. Degree wise Admission Process

B.A. (Bachelor of Arts): Admission to B.A. shall be granted on the basis of 10+2 merit. The college offers 80 seats for this program. They are eligible to apply if they should have completed their higher secondary education in any stream. 

B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce): The B.Com course is offered with 80 seats. Admission is based on 10+2 merit, giving preference to higher secondary students of Commerce or related subjects.

B.Sc (Bachelor of Science): The 80-seater B.Sc. Programme is admission based upon the merit of 10+2 examination. The applicants must be those who have studied Science subject in their higher secondary.

BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration): The college offers 40 BBA seats. Admission will be based on 10+2 merit. This is a professional course for students interested in management studies.

BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications): There are 40 BCA seats. The merit in the 10+2 examination is the criterion for admission. This is the right course for students intending to work in the IT sector.

PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications): The admission to PGDCA is purely on merit, calculated on the basis of marks in the qualifying exam, usually a Bachelor's. This program is meant for graduates wishing to acquire further knowledge in computer applications.
