Government College, Chamba Admission Process

Government College at Chamba, located at Sultanpur in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, provides a complete range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses under different streams. Admissions at Government College, Chamba, are open to deserving students in merit, targeting the higher education needs of the people of Chamba district and Himachal Pradesh at large.

Usually, the college starts admission for the next academic session during May and June months. The college being a government institution, it is strictly governed by the policies and admission procedures framed by the state government of Himachal Pradesh. All admissions are based on academic excellence or performance in the qualifying examination without biased selection.

For undergraduate courses, candidates who have completed their 10+2 education from a recognized board are eligible to apply for admission. Admission is generally made on the basis of marks obtained in the 12th standard or its equivalent examination. For admission to postgraduate courses, the general conditions require that candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university.

Application Process

  1. Notification: Admission notification will be published in local newspapers by the college as well as on the official channels created for the purpose.

  2. Application Form: Candidates can acquire the application forms from the college admission office. Some programs might have a facility for an online application.

  3. Document Submission: The accomplished application form should be in combination with the following aforementioned documents:

    • Parent Class 10 and Class 12 Mark Sheets (for UG Courses)

    • Class Block Marks Sheet (for PG courses)

    • Character Certificate from the last Attended Institution

    • Category Certificate

    • Domicile Certificate (for state quota seats)

    • Recent passport-size photographs

  4. Application Fee: For various courses, the candidate is required to pay the application fee as determined.

  5. Merit List: College will draft and announce merit lists from the academic performance of candidates attending qualifying examinations.

  6. Counseling and Admission: Selected candidates will be called for counseling and will be able to select preferred courses and subjects based upon their merit rank.

  7. Fee Payment: Selected candidates should submit the relevant amount towards fees within the designated time so that their admission could be confirmed.

  8. Document Verification: The institution will verify the submitted documents before admission is granted.

Degree-wise Admission Procedure

  • B.A. (Bachelor of Arts): Admission in the B.A program is comprehensive and has different combinations with subjects. Admission is based on marks obtained in the 10+2 level examination. The variety of subjects incorporates Hindi, English, Economics, History, and Political Science.

  • B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science): Government College Chamba offers B.Sc. programs with Medical and Non-Medical streams. Admission is based on marks in the 12th standard from candidates who studied Science subjects. The B.Sc. Non-Medical course is popular with students who are aiming to pursue Engineering and Technology-related courses.

  • B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce): The college provides the degree of B.Com for those students who are inclined towards the areas of business and finance. Admission is on the basis of merit in the 10+2 examination preferably with Commerce subjects.

  • BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration): This BBA program is for those who wish to pursue a career in management. Admission will be largely based on 10+2 performance and consideration will be given to merit lists or entrance tests depending on how many applicants apply.

  • BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications): For students interested in computers and IT, there is a BCA. Admissions are based on the 12th standard results with special preference given to students with Mathematics or Computer Science background.

  • MA (Master of Arts): Government College, Chamba has relevant MA programs in subjects like Hindi, English, Economics, History, and Political Science. Admission is typically based on the merit of the relevant Bachelor's degree in that subject.

  • PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications): This is a one-year diploma course established for graduates in order to enhance their computer skills. Admission is granted as per graduation marks of candidates, merit list will be drawn for such candidates and admission will be executed based on this.
