Government College of Engineering (GCE), Bargur was started in the year 1994. This is an autonomous institution affiliated to Anna University. The college has been approved by the AICTE. It offers an undergraduate and postgraduate programme and in engineering. The B.E programmes offered by the college include Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. M.E programmes include Computer Science and Engineering, Applied Electronics and Power Electronics Drives.
Location: Government College of Engineering (GCE), Bargur is located at Madepalli, Bargur, Tamil Nadu. The nearest airport is Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru, which is about 141 km away from the institution. GCE Bargur Alumni Association (GCEBAA): Alumni association meets once a year. Alumni who are working in the companies regularly inform the college about the requirements of the companies.
English Literary Association: The association provides training for Business English Certificate. It prepares students for the international examination, English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) designed by the University of Cambridge.

NSS: Government College of Engineering, Bargur has two active NSS units. And each unit has 100 volunteers. NSS provides diversified opportunities to our college students to develop their personality through community services. NSS volunteers conduct a variety of activities, such as orphanage visits, awareness programmes and health camps. In addition, the NSS holds annual camps in a rural location, where students assist the residents in the development of their village.
Sports: The institute has several playgrounds and well-maintained athletic tracks to encourage the students to take part in different games such as Cricket, Hockey, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis and Badminton.
Youth Red Cross: The vision of the Youth Red Cross is to become a leading humanitarian organization serving vulnerable people. The members of the club regularly take part in the various events and promote humanitarian services in society.
Red Ribbon Club: The club organizes awareness camps on AIDS and Blood Donation at regular intervals in village areas. It is equipped with correct information on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support.
Anti Ragging Committee: Anti-Ragging Committee of GCE, Bargur ensures compliance with the provisions of the regulations as well as the provisions of the law concerning ragging is in force. It also monitors and oversees the performance of the Anti-Ragging Squad in prevention of ragging in the institution.
Corporate Relationship Cell: The CRC cell of GCE, Bargur has strong tie-ups with different industries, R&D labs and Public Sector companies. It operates year-round and regularly interacts with industrial experts and keeps the course curriculum modern and relevant. The aim is to ensure that students have the information and skills necessary for an effective job search.
Anti Gender Harassment Committee: The GCE, Bargur is committed to the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and takes active steps towards gender sensitization and elimination of sexual harassment.
Quality Improvement Cell: The aim of QIC is to promote self-learning among the students and faculties. Knowledge sharing sessions are regularly planned at QIC with the aim of improvement.
Entrepreneurship Cell: The cell aims to develop an institutional mechanism to create an entrepreneurial culture in academic institutions to foster the growth of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst the faculty and students.
Teaching Learning Centre: The centre is established with the aim to improve the quality of teaching and learning. The members of this cell gather once a month to learn new trends in teaching and learning.

Admission process for B.E.:
- Students need to appear for the entrance examination - Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA), conducted by the Department of Technical Education (DoTE) of Tamil Nadu.
- DoTE conducts Single Window Counseling through Anna University, Chennai. To appear in counselling round students need to register in the TNEA portal
- The merit list will be prepared accordingly the weightage to percentile obtained by the candidate in TNEA, board exam, choice filling and counselling.
Admission process for M.E:
- Students need to appear for the entrance examination - (TANCET), conducted by Anna University (Candidates with a valid GATE score are eligible for direct admission).
- Counselling is conducted based on the rank in the entrance examination.
- Final selection is based on the merit list prepared by the authoritative body.

Government College of Engineering (GCE), Bargur has the facilities of the library, hostel for boys and girls, canteen, mess and health care facilities. The college also provides facilities of sports, gym, ATM and transportation. The clubs, cells and societies of the college empower students in various academic and extra-curricular activities:
Hostel: GCE Bargur has two separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostel is outfitted with well-furnished rooms with all amenities attached to it. Also well-equipped sports facilities and gymnasium.
Library: The library has a vast collection of volumes, which includes textbooks, reference books, Bound volumes of Journals, and Standards etc. It has computerised all its housekeeping activities using library software that is being maintained and updated regularly and it is connected to the campus-wide network. The library is provided with an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility.
Medical Facilities: The college has medical facilities. A part-time medical Doctor attends the sick students every day.
Post office: A post office is functioning within the campus with its working hours between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.
Bank and ATM: The college has the facility of City Union Bank and ATM.
