The Government Dental College and Hospital, Hyderabad (GDCH) is the oldest institute for dental education and health care, started in 1958. This affiliated college is situated in Hyderabad, Telangana, and approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI). Currently, GDCH occupies a small plot of 2.29 acres and teaches 10 courses from 2 degree programmes with a total student intake capacity of 66. Today the college has a membership of 113 faculty members and thus a good student/faculty ratio. Being a government institution, GDCH trains and produces qualified dentists to offer quality dental health care to society.

The college has separate hostels for boys and girls for residential students to help them to reside comfortably. The campus is endowed with a health centre with adequate first aid services for emergencies that may arise from time to time. To support learners’ exercise regimen, the college offers a gym for people who have an interest in physical fitness. The library is a source of knowledge, with a wide-ranging number of journals related to dentistry and numerous materials and literature presented. The institution has all the possible levels of dental programmes, such as undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The BDS makes up the basic degree to be pursued by each candidate, and the college admits one hundred and fifty candidates for the course. At the postgraduate level, there are a total of nine MDS seats, each of which provides an opportunity to enrol in the chosen specialisations, including such ones as prosthodontics, periodontics and implantology, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics, and oral medicine and radiology, et cetera. It should be noted that all courses offered meet full-time status, which means students will have intense and productive learning throughout the semester.

The BDS programme admissions are carried through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), which serves as a dental and medical entrance examination. Likewise for MDS programmes, the candidates are eligible only through the NEET MDS examination. For BDS, the minimum eligibility requirements are passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects. For MDS, applicants should have a BDS degree from a recognised college. Certain eligibility requirements might be different for each specialisation under the MDS course.
