Government Polytechnic College, Udhagamandalam was established in 1982, situated at the southern Nilgiri hills region of Tamil Nadu, and is one of the prime technical institutions. This affiliated college, recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), provides diploma courses in a number of disciplines of engineering. Situated over 9.25 acre campus, the college provides education to the total of 580 students and has 26 faculty. Due to its focusing on technical education the institute offer six diploma courses in a single degree programme to students in areas of specialisation including Civil, Mechanical and Electrical and Elecrronics Engineering.
Government Polytechnic College, Udhagamandalam, boasts of a variety of modern facilities for improving the learning process of the students. The library, open from 10:From 00 AM to 5:00 PM in working days, it acts as an information centre, with read only section, from where students can borrow books for 14 days. For female students, there is a 12 room hostel with a capacity under the able supervision of the principal with the assistance of a deputy warden respectively. - As per the approved intake of 90 students, the same admission procedure is applicable as that of other diploma courses in Diploma in Civil Engineering. There are additional 30 seats in the second shift.
- Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering course is of 60 seats. Admission is offered on the basis of marks of 10th standard, i.e., mathematics and science subjects.
- 60 seats are offered for Diploma in Commercial Practice programme in the college. Admission process considers 10th standard, with possible weightage to mathematics and language skill.
- 50 seats in day shift and 40 seats in second shift are offered in Diploma in Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Admission is based on merit of marks of 10th standard, with consideration to science and mathematics performance.
