The HKBK College of Engineering (HKBKCE) is located in the IT capital of India- Bengaluru. The city is the capital of Karnataka state. The college was founded in the year 1997, and covers a total land area worth seventeen acres. This college is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), located in Belagavi, also in Karnataka. This affiliation ensures approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). The technical courses in the institute are recognized by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). In addition, it has also been accredited by both the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) and the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning a B grade rating in the latter.
The Bengaluru- based HKBK College of Engineering is named after Hazrat Khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Khaki. He was a revered Sufi saint in the 12th and 13th century. The Qutab Minar in Delhi was dedicated in his honour, when built. The HKBKCE is also a member of the AIU (Association of Indian Universities). The college has also forged an international tie up with a college in Bosnia- Herzegovina, a country located in the Balkans of south- eastern Europe. The partner college is the American University in Bosnia- Herzegovina, located in the town of Tuzla. Such collaborations help in research collaboration, student exchange programmes and in garnering consulting assignments.
Courses are available at the HKBKCE in Bengaluru, right from the UG till doctoral levels. At the undergrad level, the BE programmes are available for the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. Some management, technology and commerce related courses are also on offer at the UG stage. These are for the areas of BBA, BCA and B. Com. At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. Tech programmes are available for the areas of- Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Network Engineering, Thermal Power Engineering, Machine Design and for VLSI Design & Embedded Systems.
An MBA can also be pursued from the HKBKCE. doctoral programmes may also be taken up here. The entire academics here is run by a set of departments, each possessing expertise in its own areas. There are departments for each of the academic areas offered at the UG level including the BBA, BCA and the B.Com. There is another for the MBA, and another for all the doctoral programmes. Admissions to the tech- based UG programmes is via the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains. At the master’s it is via the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). The non- tech courses at the undergrad level, sees students recruited based of merit of school- leaving exams.
For the MBA programme, nationally recognized exams are taken into consideration, such as the CAT (Common Admission Test), MAT (Management Aptitude Test), XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) or the MAT (Management Aptitude Test). The college even conducts its own tests. Scores of state recognized entrance tests are also considered. Non- Resident Indians (NRIs) or foreigners need not apply to this exam, but may avail admission via the CAP (Common Admissions Process). Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Start- up Innovation Centre has been an active forum here. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models.
The HKBK Group of Institutions also runs other such ventures. There is pre- university college, and a degree college for general education. A lot is done on campus to make sure that the students remain employment worthy. Industrial visits are arranged so that the students get a grip on real- world work challenges. They get to practically learn the processes as they happen. Infosys, Microsoft and ITC Infotech have been some major companies whose plants and premises have been visited by students from the HKBKCE. Students are also provided with the placement mentoring. Sessions are held on personality development, soft skills and English language communication.
This has led to much improved placement figures for the college. Some of the key recruiters in recent seasons from the HKBKCE have been the likes of- Asian Paints, Escorts, Berger Paints, Midland Group, ITC, JK Tyre, VLCC, Orient Fans, Cadbury, Colgate Palmolive, TVS Motors, VIP Industries, Genpact, Zomato, JK Lakshmi Cement, TVS Electronics, Godfrey Phillips, Parle Foods, Pepsico, Blue Star, HCL, Apeejay Group, Infosys, Hindware, JBM, Havells, Grasim Industries, Eureka Forbes, Greenply, Hyundai, Prism Cement, Tata Motors, India mart and several more. Summer internships too are an integral part of this college. They are generated by the college itself. The rankings of the HKBK College of Engineering have also swelled up across ranking platforms. The Careers 360 magazine has placed the college within AAA category for engineering colleges.
