JM College, Bhurkunda, the affiliated college was established in 1979 is located in Ramgarh, Jharkhand. Located in Patel Nagar close to Bank More this institution has been in existence to provide education in the region for more than forty years. Currently, the college is accredited by the National Assessment and accreditation Council (NAAC) to justify quality standards in education. JM College occupies a large piece of land of 5 acres in order to enhance and foster learning among the students. The college has a total of 2925 students and employs 41 committed staff members in the faculty. Currently, JM College provides 8 courses under 6 degree programmes to meet different students’ learning demands and future employment needs.

JM College has various facilities which in one way or another contribute to the improvement of the learning ability of the learners. Again, it is a source of knowledge and, therefore, makes it easy for the students to access the nobel resources required in their endeavours. In particular for those who have an interest in sports, the college provides numerous facilities in order to enhance sport and communal exercise among the students. It also values technology highly as can be evidenced by a good technological facility that provide students with knowledge necessary to befit the modern society. Departmental laboratories afford practical experiences, which are necessary for the development of educative divergences in numerous fields of specialization. There are facilities on the college such as the parking hence having few bays for faculty, staff and students and a health centre that contains first aid facilities in the case of emergencies. Extra curricular activities are also are promoted in JM College; students can join activities like NSS and NCC.

The course offered can be grouped in the fields of Arts, Commerce, Science and Information Technology such as BA, BCA, BBA. ANALYTIC GEOMETRY 2D, HIGHER ALGEBRA & TRIGONOMETRY

UNIT I - ANALYTICAL GEOMETRY OF 2D

Change of rectangular axes. Condition for the general equation of second degree to represent parabola,

ellipse, hyperbola and reduction into standard forms. Equations of tangent and normal (Using Calculus).

Chord of contact, Pole and Polar. Pair of tangents in reference to general equation of conic. Axes, centre,

director circle in reference to general equation of conic. Polar equation of conic.

UNIT II - HIGHER ALGEBRA & TRIGONOMETRY

Statement and proof of binomial theorem for any index, exponential and logarithmic series.

De Moivre’s theorem and its applications.

Trigonometric and Exponential functions of complex argument and hyperbolic functions.

Summation of Trigonometrical series.

Factorisation of sin , cos .

UNIT I - DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS

Successive differentiation, Leibnitz’s theorem. Maclaurin and Taylor series expansion.

Partial differentiation, Euler’s theorem for functions of two variables, Total differential, Jacobian.

Tangent and normal, curvature. Asymptotes. Maxima and Minima of functions of two variables,

Lagrange’s multipliers.

UNIT II - VECTOR CALCULUS

Product of three and four vectors, work done, moment of a vector about a point and a line.

Scalar and vector point functions, differentiation of a vector function of scalar variables. Gradient,

Divergence and Curl, second order operators in Cartesian coordinate system.

Sequences, bounded sequence, convergent sequence, monotonic sequence, subsequence, Cauchy

sequence and Cauchy’s general principle of convergence.

UNIT I – INTEGRAL CALCULUS

Integration of rational and irrational functions.

Evaluation of definite integrals, Special integrals, differentiation and integration under the sign of

integration (Beta and Gamma functions are excluded), reduction formulae.

Point of inflexion, double point, curve tracing. Length of plane curve and area bounded by plane

curves. Volume and surface area of solid of revolution.

UNIT II – ANALYTICAL GEOMETRY 3D

Rectangular, spherical-polar and cylindrical co-ordinates, direction cosines.

Angle between straight lines, equation of planes and straight lines, shortest distance between the lines.
