In view of the extensive need for management expertise in the development and management of urban infrastructure and systems, XUMG has pioneered the first 2-year full-time MBA Program in Urban Management and Governance in the country. The planning and management of livable, sustainable and smart cities have large-scale public and environmental implications, and require sector-specific expertise to ensure appropriate citizen-centric, just and ecologically sustainable development.

The MBA-UMG is therefore designed to build multi-dextrous professionals with the spatial and systemic understanding of urban areas on one hand and functional management knowledge and skills on the other. The combination of a spatial imagination and abilities, and management expertise endows a unique combination of competencies.

Program Structure:

The MBA-UMG Program includes core and elective coursework and other learning segments of 111 credits. Each credit requires 10 hours of classroom contact or its field equivalent, and another 10 hours outside the classroom for preparatory reading and assignments. Students are thus expected to spend about 70 hours a week for their academic work, in preparation for the rigours of a public management career. The core courses provide the conceptual and theoretical fundamentals of management, urban analysis and spatial development, and the analytical frameworks and tools for field learning. These are augmented by Urban Learning Experience (Urban Studio), Urban Management Internship, UMGP Colloquium, Immersion Courses, seminars and leadership talks.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have secured the 1st, 2nd or 3rd position (i.e., any of the top three ranks, at the College / Institute / University) in their undergraduate program can apply without any Admission Test score by filling the Online Application Form. A certificate from the Head of the Institution stating their rank/ position must be furnished to that effect when asked for.
Candidates with a three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized University can apply with a valid Admission Test score.
Candidates with Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Planning, Geography (Hons.), and Economics (Hons.) with minimum 55% marks in aggregate AND candidates from other disciplines with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in their three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) program are also encouraged to apply.
All shortlisted candidates (for all categories mentioned in this section) will have to appear for a Writing Ability Test and/or Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview.
Final year degree students expecting to complete their final examinations can also apply.

Admission Details

Applicants are required to take any one of the Admission Tests:

a) XAT to be conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, on January 07, 2024, or
b) CAT to be conducted by IIMs on November 26, 2023, or

c) NMAT by GMAC to be conducted during October – December 2023, or

d) GMAT taken in 2022 or 2023, or

e) X-GMT to be conducted by XIM University on January 28, 2024.

f) GATE taken in 2022 or 2023, or

g) CEED taken in 2023, or

h) NATA taken in 2022 or 2023, or

Applicants opting for any of the above Admission Tests will have to follow the respective advertisements and apply in time for the test. Registering for any of the above Admission Tests is a prerequisite for applying under Eligibility category (1), if not opting for X-GMT.

Candidates who have secured the 1^st, 2^nd or 3^rd position (i.e., any of the top three ranks, at the College / Institute / University) in their undergraduate program can apply, without any Admission Test score. Such applicants must submit a certificate from the Head of the Institution to that effect when asked for. They will, however, be required to attend the Personal Interview, if called.

Selection Process - The Institute will decide the section-wise as well as overall cut-off marks which will be used for short-listing the candidates to be called for Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview. WAT/GD/PI will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai (if held offline). Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the Interview session. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in the XAT/CAT/GMAT/X-GMT/NMAT/GATE/CEED/NATA as well as in the Writing Ability Test and/or Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). The selected candidates will be informed by mail in the month of April 2024.
