RIMS Rourkela Admission Process
Rourkela Institute of Management Studies (RIMS), Rourkela is one of the top B-schools in Odisha, offering various management and technology courses. RIMS Rourkela admission process is such, that is very stringent and aims to ensure the most talented and deserving students are selected from all over the country. RIMS Rourkela admission process usually commences for an academic year beginning in August-September. Depending on the programme, the institute accepts applications through several national-level entrance examinations. For MBA programmes, candidates are required to qualify either CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, or OJEE. For MCA admissions, OJEE or NIMCET is considered.
An essential eligibility criterion for the undergraduate level is that the candidate should have passed 10+2 from a recognised board. Most of the courses require their candidates to have at least an aggregate of 50% marks in their qualifying exams. For the postgraduate level, students must have obtained their bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 55-60% marks, or an equivalent CGPA. - Further selection rounds that may include group discussions and personal interviews are conducted for those shortlisted.'

For MCA programmes:
- Qualified to OJEE or NIMCET.
- Apply in RIMS Rourkela with OJEE or NIMCET scores.

For BBA, BCA, and BJMC programmes:

For admission to MBA programme at RIMS Rourkela, candidature is based on the performance of the candidates in CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, or OJEE. The sanctioned intake for the MBA programme is 150. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with the minimum prescribed Marks.
RIMS Rourkela MCA Admission Process
For admission into the MCA programme, OJEE and NIMCET must be qualified. The sanctioned intake for the MCA programme is 60 seats. For eligibility, the contenders must have undergone a recognised graduation in a relevant stream.
RIMS Rourkela BBA Admission Process
Admission in the BBA programme is conducted through an interview. The number of seats allotted for this programme is 112. RIMS appreciates bright students by providing scholarships to the top three performers in RIMSET (RIMS Entrance Test).
RIMS Rourkela BCA Admission Process
Just like its BBA, admissions for BCA are held through personal interviews. Approved intake is 48 seats. For top performers in RIMSET, scholarships are available.
RIMS Rourkela BJMC Admission Process
Admission to the Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication programme can be conducted directly after a personal interview. Scholarships are provided to top three students who appear in RIMSET.
RIMS Rourkela Ph.D Programmes Admission Process
Ph.D. in Management and Ph.D Computer Application and Science are also offered by RIMS Rourkela. Admission into these programmes may require more requirements and modalities of selection.

Academics
I studied their for 3 years and I personally think the whole curriculum is made for 90s. Yes they are trying to bring some changes to by bringing new courses or course structure but they actually failed to implement it, the faculty members are not trained enough to implement or deliver the content except few.
Some faculty members and courses are so boring and outdated that you will get frustrated sitting the class for every second.
Not the faculty nor the students are interested to study the course
College Infra
I got graduate here in 2025, personally I got one of the worst experiences ever. Its infra like building, benches and Labs are not sufficient.
It lacks im basic facilities like washrooms, wifi facility and Labs.
Class-rooms and benches are below average standard with no airconditioning.
The college is located at the crowded side, which is actually very noisy, which effect the classroom teaching.
Not sufficient staffs members and not they are supportive.
The food quality in the canteen are not healthy even reptiles samples were found in the food.
At the last I will say it isa management college which itself has one of the worst management.
Campus Life
I would say like I came from DPS (Delhi Public School) for me the campus was just a joke, it ends after taking few steps when you enter.
It has one basketball court where the play all sports like cricket, badminton, volleyball etc.
Teachers and staff are not supportive at all, they are very selfish egoistic and money minded
The location of college is in a crowded market place, they there is continuous sound of speak, honking etc. so overall it is very noisy
Placements
While I was pursuing my undergraduate (BBA) course I nor my batchmate got any internship opportunity, so forget about placement. Still Marketing specialization students got few but forget about other specialization. Even in MBA program they are struggling with placement. The college actually feild in making students placement ready.
Still I will say few couple of companies have arrived for placement but only for MBA, but it's very few.
I will suggest better look for other colleges like Municipal college for undergraduate course rather than doing here.
I was lucky that I got somehow passed from the college, but many in my batchmates still stuck in the loop of exams in the college. The marking or evaluation system is not transperent at all. At the last I will say the whole system of college is broken.
Value For Money
The whole three years program cost me 4 Lakh. I would say if you just want have some couple of degrees like undergraduate and Master you can go for it is cheap, but still I will prefer to look for better alternative like Municipal college.
It's all about priorities, if you want to make a great career then you must avoid it will take you to a grave.

Academics
The academic experience at RIMS has been underwhelming. The curriculum feels outdated and lacks alignment with current industry demands. There is limited focus on practical, hands-on learning, and most sessions rely heavily on traditional lecture-based teaching methods, which fail to engage students effectively.
The quality of faculty is inconsistent. While some professors are knowledgeable, many lack the ability to effectively communicate or inspire critical thinking among students. Guidance and mentorship are minimal, leaving students to navigate their academic challenges on their own.
The institute also falls short in offering valuable internships or placement support, with very few meaningful opportunities provided to help students gain real-world experience. Industry exposure, guest lectures, and workshops are rare, and when they do occur, they lack depth and relevance.
Additionally, there seems to be a lack of emphasis on fostering research or innovation. Students who wish to explore beyond the basic curriculum are left with limited resources and support.
Overall, the academic standards at RIMS need substantial improvement. Without significant updates to the curriculum, better faculty training, and enhanced industry collaboration, the institute struggles to provide a fulfilling academic experience.
College Infra
The infrastructure at RIMS falls short of expectations in several areas. The classrooms, while usable, are often poorly ventilated and lack modern teaching aids, which hampers the learning experience. Many of the facilities seem outdated and in need of maintenance.
The library, though present, has a limited collection of books and insufficient digital resources. It does not meet the needs of students seeking comprehensive academic materials or resources for research.
The hostel facilities are another area of concern. Rooms are often cramped and not well-maintained, with issues like cleanliness and basic amenities being frequently reported. The dining facilities are subpar, offering limited food options and inconsistent hygiene standards.
Sports and recreational facilities are minimal and poorly managed, leaving little room for students to engage in extracurricular activities or relax. The computer labs and internet facilities are also not up to standard, with outdated systems and slow connectivity creating unnecessary challenges for academic work.
Overall, RIMS needs significant improvements in its infrastructure to provide a better environment for students. The current state of facilities detracts from the institute's potential to deliver a high-quality educational experience.
Placements
The placement scenario at RIMS is disappointing and fails to meet the expectations of students. Despite promises of robust industry connections, the actual placement opportunities are limited and often lack quality. Most companies that visit the campus offer low-paying roles that do not match the skills or qualifications of the students.
The placement cell appears poorly organized and unprepared, with minimal efforts to bring in reputed companies. There is a noticeable lack of diverse opportunities across industries, making it difficult for students to find roles aligned with their career aspirations.
Furthermore, the institute provides inadequate support in terms of placement training. Sessions on resume building, interview preparation, and soft skills development are either ineffective or infrequent, leaving students ill-equipped to face competitive placement processes.
Many students are forced to rely on off-campus placements or personal efforts to secure a job, which undermines the institute's value as a career enabler.
Overall, the placement process at RIMS needs significant improvement in terms of attracting reputable companies, providing better job roles, and offering stronger career support. Without these changes, students are left feeling dissatisfied and undervalued.
