The Scott Christian College enjoys continuity with the school founded in 1809 at Mylaudy by the Rev. The Library was equipped with up-to-date volumes which ran up to 4000 in 1924. On February 1, 1927, Mr. G. H. Marsden, M.A Tripos of the University of Cambridge took charge as Principal and took special care in increasing the SCC Nagercoil facilities for the Science Department. The first majors introduced were Mathematics and History, and this was followed by Chemistry, Economics , Physics, Zoology and Botany. The College was affiliated to the Madurai University in 1966.
The College progressively introduced new courses for the undergraduates: B.A. English, B. Com. , Self-financed B.Sc. Computer Science was introduced in 1997 followed by B.Sc. Physical Education, B.Com., BBA, BCA, B.A. English,and others. The commencing of post-graduate courses in 1971 is a significant landmark in the history of the College. SCC Nagercoil scholarships are offered to pursue further studies at the college. Now there are twelve postgraduate courses in arts, science and commerce subjects. The SCC Nagercoil admission into the courses offered at the postgraduate level includes M.A. Economics, Zoology, M.Com., and self-financed M.A. History, PGDCA, M.Sc. Microbiology, PGDBM, MBA and MCA. M. Phil. courses were gradually introduced: Zoology, Botany, Economics, Commerce, Tamil, Physics, English, Chemistry, History and Maths. Subsequently, M.S. University recognised Zoology, Tamil, Botany, Commerce, English, Chemistry, History, Physics, and Business Administration as Research Centres. SCC Nagercoil placements are given to the eligible students are the college.
