Sengamala Thayaar Educational Trust Women's College, Thiruvarur was established by Sengamala Thayaar Educational Trust in the year 1994 in order to provide education to girls. The institute is also known as STET Women’s College. The institution is named after Sri Sengamala Thayaar, the Divine Consort of Sri Rajagopalaswamy. STET Women's College is affiliated to Bharathidasan University. The college is recognised by the University Grants Commission and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to the students.

The college has the library facility for all students.The Online Public Access Catalogue facility is available in the library for the use of students and members of the staff. It facilitates the students and staff members to have easy access and locate the library resources.

The college has excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students. The campus has 12 smart class rooms with ICT facility. Now is the era of smart classrooms which make learning fun through the use of digital equipment like the VCD or DVD player or laptops and computers, fitted to a projector.

There are two Air-Conditioned Seminar/Conference Halls, one is in the Vivekanandam Block and the another one is in the T.V.S. Block. LCD projector, Computer, white board, podium, and audio arrangements are provided in each seminar/conference hall.

The windows, UNIX and LINUX software packages such as Mobile Computing, Multimedia, Animation and various editing packages are made available to create simulated environments to suit not only the curricula very well but also to go beyond it.
