Sri Mahadeshwara Government First Grade College, Kollegal, was commenced in the year 1966 as an affiliated college situated in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka state. This public university has a quite large area of territory, 19 acres, and provides a wide list of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The college is affiliated with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to showcase the quality consciousness of this college. The total number of students enrolled in this college is 792, and the number of faculties is 18, which overallcomprises a favourable atmosphere for learning. It provides 5 courses in 5 degree programmes in arts, commerce, and sciences to other faculties or disciplines.

It has a wide range of facilities that can facilitate the other aspects of the educational experience achieved in the college. The academic library, as a stock of books, contains approximately 42,000 books, including reference books, encyclopaedias, and dictionaries on subjects. What interests sportsmen and women is that the college boasts professionalism and a designed 8.5-acre campus with playspace and fields for outdoor exercise and a special room for indoor exercise. The campus has a 5-acre general field for all the sports and games for the students and, many times, equipment for the multi-gym and many other physical training-related equipment. Currently, Sri Mahadeshwara Government First Grade College provides a total of 5 courses, which are all full-time courses. These are undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with a wide academic focus area. The college offers a BA programme. Also, it provides the following degree programmes: the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), and the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc). For the postgraduate programmes, the college has set up a Master of Arts (MA) in Kannada.
