Laboratories: The college has well-equipped departmental laboratories for various Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Botany, etc.) and specialized labs for subjects like IT (B.Com), Journalism, Geography, and Geology. There are also modern Computer Labs with internet facilities for students. Auditorium: There is a spacious, well-maintained, and often fully air-conditioned Auditorium with a seating capacity of around 300-320 people for functions, seminars, and events.

However, it's important to set realistic expectations: the focus is often on high enrollment and providing a base degree, and the packages are typically entry-level.

Affordable Fees: Being a government-aided institution affiliated with the University of Calcutta, the tuition fees are historically and consistently very low compared to private colleges or universities. Result: The initial investment (tuition) is minimal, making quality higher education accessible to students from all economic backgrounds.

The curriculum is comprehensive, covering rigorous reporting techniques, digital media ethics, and essential production skills effectively. Class discussions are always engaging and interactive, making complex theoretical concepts significantly easier for me to grasp and remember properly. The quality of our regular professors makes the entire academic journey worthwhile and genuinely intellectually stimulating for me.

I feel that the essential practical facilities are highly insufficient for our professional curriculum. Classrooms are basic and often suffer from poor ventilation, making concentrated study difficult, especially during the summer months. Our dedicated studio for video production is extremely limited and feels outdated, consistently forcing many of us to depend on personal equipment. The central library is acceptable for printed material, yet the computer lab cannot adequately serve the entire Journalism and Mass Communication batch. Common areas are poorly maintained, and essential services like water coolers are frequently unreliable during peak student hours. The college's physical infrastructure simply has not evolved to meet the current standards of a modern professional degree.

I feel we benefit from a very active student council that meticulously orchestrates numerous extracurricular activities, including fantastic cultural showcases and highly competitive sports events. Unfortunately, the total absence of a dedicated, proper open green space or a spacious college field greatly limits opportunities for comfortable, relaxed outdoor gatherings. I often find students utilizing the nearby street food stalls and busy park benches for social interaction and necessary academic collaboration immediately after classes end. Participation in various departmental clubs, such as the debate or film society, is absolutely essential for fully integrating into the college's limited social fabric.

The career guidance cell's involvement for the Journalism and Mass Communication batch often feels quite passive and notably lacks consistent effort. The opportunities they manage to secure are usually confined to low-paying, foundational roles in public relations or basic content creation within smaller agencies. These job offers are generally modest in salary, often resembling a simple temporary apprenticeship stipend rather than a proper graduate's entry-level package. Prestigious media organizations rarely visit the campus for dedicated recruiting.

Given the significantly affordable fee structure of Surendranath College, the overall quality of education delivered is extremely commendable and noteworthy according to me. The high teaching standard, especially from the seasoned senior professors, far outweighs the modest physical infrastructure deficiencies we experience daily in class. Our course fees adequately cover all essential examination costs and provide full access to necessary library resources without any additional or unexpected hidden charges. For a state university affiliated college situated right in the heart of Kolkata, the educational return on investment is fantastic and highly appreciated by the students.

Faculty is always ready to help students either personally or professionally. They teach everything in an easy manner which helps students to improve themselves. But some of them were less experienced and may faced issues in teaching.

The infrastructure and facilities in my college were ok and the food quality in my canteen was quite acceptable. But there is no ac in the college, no wifi facility provided here. And also there is no hostel facility.

Placement opportunities is very low specially for U.G. courses, and very few number of the students gets the placement here. Also no initiative is taken from the college's side and no internship programs are held here.
