What is Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering program comprises study about tissue engineering, molecular or systems level biology/ physiology and mathematics. Students get to study about biomedical electronics, quantitative and analytical skills required to interpret data acquired and processing of medical data including imaging and enhancement techniques. Other aspects of the program include the study of biomechanics, cellular engineering, genetic engineering, orthopedic surgery, bio-instrumentation, medical imaging and bio-materials. Other important topics, about which the student will get to know include, about studying about advanced therapeutic and surgical devices, computer modeling of physiologic systems.

Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Biomedical Engineering

UG: Students planning to pursue biomedical engineering in the In order to pursue Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Biotechnology in biomedical engineering, students need to have passed the higher secondary school certificate (10+2) examination with science subjects such as biology, maths, and chemistry.

PG: Those planning to pursue their masters in biomedical engineering need to have pursued their bachelor of engineering or bachelor of technology or equivalent in Biomedical or Medical Electronics or Electrical and Electronics or Electronics and Communication or Electronics and Telecommunication or Instrumentation Engineering.

Scope of Biomedical Engineering in India and Abroad

According to the reports, there will be a surge in the demand for biomedical engineers and it is predicted to rise to 23 percent between 2014 to 2024. Today, people who are facing problems related to knee or hips are even opting for replacement procedures. In the past, some of the medical tests were quite painful. However, biomedical engineers work are working towards developing technology that is less painful for patients. Every day new ways are devised to do blood tests, screening for infectious diseases and in genetics. Today, we see a surge in heart and kidney ailments as well as problems related to joints. In order to overcome these, bioengineers are involved in the designing and construction of devices such as cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, artificial kidneys, blood oxygenators, prosthetic hearts, and joints.

what is the major difference between Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and Electronics and Communication engineering and how about scope, placement and future.

Nimish Yadav 15th Sep, 2020

The major difference between Electronics and Instrumentation engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering is the instrument study and communication study . Yeh electronics part of both the engineering is kind of  same where you study of Electronics components like transmitter, receiver, BJT etc .while in EIE you also study about Instrumentation which eman study of instrument . It is an  industry based engineering that have developed in recent years in India which deal with an installation, automation , calibration of instruments in Industry .

While in ECE you study about the communication field like wifi , IOTs a common example is out Sim cards application and many more . Both branches are good in their sides . If you are from ECE there is a chances of you getting a software company also . The companies providing job to both of the branches are quite same .
