The National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra was established in 1963 under the Government of India. The institution was formed under the joint act of both the State and Central Governments. The institute first started functioning as Regional Engineering College (REC) but later got the status of a Deemed University on June 26, 2002. The institute was later renamed as The National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra after it got the status of a Deemed University. NIT Kurukshetra offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various disciplines of engineering. Ph.D research programmes also are offered in engineering, sciences, humanities and social sciences as well as computer applications. MBA and MCA degree has also started functioning in NIT KKR during the session 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 respectively. The institute offers admission to students for B.Tech programmes with an annual intake of 540 students and 165 students for M.Tech programmes.
NIT Kurukshetra is located in Kurukshetra, Haryana. NIT KKR campus is located about 10 km away from Pipli on the Sher Shah Suri Marg and about 5 km away from Kurukshetra Railway station. Students who are travelling by bus need to reach Pipli first, or Kurukshetra Railway Junction if travelling by train. At both places students can find an auto to NIT Kurukshetra and if they do not find the auto directly then take the auto of Kurukshetra University gate 2 or 3. From there, the campus of NIT KKR can be easily reached by covering a walking distance. The nearest airport to the institute is the Chandigarh Airport which is located at a distance of 160 km away from the institute.

Clubs, Committees and Societies:-
Embedded Systems and Robotics Club- The Embedded Systems & Robotics Club is a platform where students can develop their technical skills to implement them in real-time applications.
SAE- Society for Automotive Engineers consists of members who organise workshops to develop their skills in the field of automobile engineering. This is a club of all the budding automobile engineers who take part in a series of workshops. The members of SAE have also participated in BAJA SAEINDIA, a national level competition organised by SAEINDIA.
Technobyte Society- This is the official technical society consisting of students belonging to the Computer and IT Engineering departments of NIT Kurukshetra. The members of this society also develop ideas to hone their technical skills. This society also conducts different workshops and events during the fest Techspardha like Hackshetra, Excalibur, Encoder, Keynote, Blackbox, Webhunt, Gamestation etc.
Mehsoc- The main objective of the members of Mehsoc is to enhance their technical skills by organising and participating themselves in a number of events and fests. The two main technical festivals conducted are Altius and Techspardha. Both the fests are conducted in collaboration with the other societies.
Electroreck Society- This Society consists of students belonging to the electrical engineering department where they share knowledge regarding electrical and electronics. The members of this society also take part in ALTIUS and TECHSPARDHA.
Microbus Society- Microbus is the technical society of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department where the members research and discuss topics to gain more knowledge regarding electronics. The members of this society also organise various events like workshops, expert lectures, competitions, fun events like robotics, micro-logic, micro-controller challenge, e-modelling, brainteasers, papyrus vitae etc at both institute and national level.
Infrastructure Society- This Society is formed with the objective of motivating the innovative and technical skills of students. Students are encouraged to join this club so that they can learn the art of innovation and develop interest in it.
Aeromodelling Club- The Aeromodelling Club has been formed to bring in like-minded students who can exchange unique ideas about innovation and creation. This club mainly focuses on learning and sharing knowledge about creating new flying models. The members of this club also conduct workshops like Hot air balloon workshop, Control line aircraft workshop, Chuck glider workshop, Boomerang workshop, Annual workshop, Flying workshop etc.
Industry Cell- The objective of Industry Cell is to develop the entrepreneurial skills of students like idea generation, opportunity evaluation, business modeling, cash flow, marketing, intellectual property rights and so on. The members of Industry Cell also conduct various events like B-Plan, B-Quiz, Microentrepreneur, Marketing guru, Ad-Mad, Stock market, Future CEO, Campus Preneur etc. where students get the platform to practice their skills and excel in it.
Antariksh- Antariksh is the astronomy club of NIT Kurukshetra where students involve themselves in several activities like Astronar, night sky watching sessions, monthly quiz etc. to know more about astrology.
Fine Arts & Modelling Club- This is the official club of NIT Kurukshetra where the members practice different activities of art.
Photography Club- This Club captures all the wonderful moments of joy and happiness. All the pictures and videos are clicked and edited by the members of this Club. This club provides a platform for students where they can show their creativity in terms of photography. It also motivates other students of the institute to join this club so that they can learn and develop skills in photography. The members of this club also organise various events during cultural fests like Confluence, Impressions, Shutterbug, Cinematography, Capsun etc to develop the photography and creativity skills of students.
Music & Dramatics Club- The members of the Music & Dramatics Club are responsible for conducting various events related to dance, music and drama. The members of this club also participate in these events conducted by them.
Students & Activity Club- The members of SAC indulge themselves in events and fest where they get the opportunity to perform and showcase their skills. The members of this club also take active participation in both major events of the institute namely, Talent Show and Confluence.
PG Club- PG club aims to help students to connect with students of other branches of the institute.
Hiking & Trekking Club- Hiking and Trekking Club consist of members where students engage themselves in extracurricular activities by planning out trips, excursions and other adventure activities.
Audio Visual Aid Club- This Club audio-video quality of systems in jubilee hall, AE lawns and OAT and other national levels cultural fest CONFLUENCE and technical fest TECHSPARDHA happening inside the institute. The members of this club also share ideas to know more about sound and lighting and also encourage students to join this club who are interested in gaining more information about audio-video aids.
Spicmacay Club- This Club consists of members where students learn and enhance their skills. This club also provides a platform to students where they can present their talent by participating in workshops and events.
For Admission to B.Tech/BE programmes-
Candidates seeking admission to B.Tech/B.E programmes have to appear and qualify JEE Main conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).
Based on their scores in JEE Main, candidates have to register for JoSAA counselling on the official website of JoSAA along with necessary documents and payment of fees.
Candidates need to choose NIT Kurukshetra as the preferred college while doing the choice locking.
Candidates are offered admission to B.Tech/BE programmes based on JoSAA registration, participation in counselling, choice filling, choice locking, document verification and fee payment.
For Admission to M.Tech/ME programmes-
Candidates seeking admission to M.Tech/ME programmes need to appear and qualify GATE.
Based on their GATE scores, students can proceed for CCMT counselling that is conducted to admit students to M.Tech/M.E programmes.
Candidates need to register themselves for CCMT counselling by providing GATE credentials, qualifying degrees certificates, personal details etc. and by paying the requisite registration fees.
Candidates will have to select NIT Kurukshetra as their first preference while doing the choice locking.
Candidates will be offered admission to M.E/M.Tech programmes based on the counselling participation, choice locking, choice filling, document verification and payment of fees.
First preference is given to GATE qualifying students and the remaining vacant seats are offered to Non-GATE students scoring a minimum of 60% (55% for SC candidates) in the qualifying examination.
For Admission to doctoral programmes-
Candidates seeking admission to doctoral programmes, need to clear the written test conducted by the respective departments of the institute.
Candidates who will qualify the written test, need to appear for an interview related to their research area.
Based on the marks scored by candidates in their written test and interview, merit list of the eligible candidates will be released by the authority.

There are several facilities and amenities such as hostels, health centre, centre of computing and networking, central library etc. which are provided for students and faculty members of the campus. Students and staff are allowed to use all the facilities under the rules and regulations of the authority which are mentioned below.
Centre of Computing and Networking- It is the Centre which connects the overall computing and networking of the Institute through Local Area Network (LAN). The Centre of Computing and Networking was established in 1997 to provide students with advanced technology.
Health Centre- Medical and healthcare facilities are available for students and staff 24x7. The medical unit is provided with trained medical officers and para medical staff which offers any kind of medical treatment to students and staff in case of any medical emergency.
Central Library- The Library has a collection of books including textbooks, reference books, CD- ROMs and large number of Print & Online Journals and e-books providing all the necessary information and knowledge to students and staff. The library was established in 1965. The library is also well equipped with audio and video facilities for conducting seminars, conferences, guest lectures, user awareness programs etc. with a capacity to accommodate 100 persons.
Hostels- Separate accommodation is provided to girls and boys based on the availability of seats. Students are provided with all basic facilities to students to meet their daily requirements.

Hello student National institute of technology,Kurukshetra has total 9 boys hostel 3 hostel are triple bedded and rest of them are single bedded all the hostel of Postgraduate students are single bedded. You need to contact the administration department to get the accommodation and on the basis of availability they'll alot you on respective hostel.
