The Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET) in Jhansi was established in the year 1986, though the first batches started getting enrolled from 1989 onwards. Its campus is spread over a total land area of 240 acres in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). It is affiliated to the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Lucknow. It is approved by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), while its autonomy has been granted by the UGC (University Grants Commission). The BIET is also a member of several international collaborations such as the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), DELNET (Developing Library Network), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). The institute primarily caters to the Bundelkhand region of Southern UP.
Both UG as well as PG programmes may be pursued here at the BIET. At the undergrad level, engineering programmes with the B. Tech degree may be pursued in seven areas which are in – Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Information Technology and in Electronics & Communication. Masters level programmes are available with increased specialization. They are available for the areas of- Environmental Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Energy Science & Technology, Digital Communication System, Manufacturing Science & Technology and for Construction Technology & Management. These are all M. Tech programmes. In addition, an MBA may also be pursued from here. This MBA is available in four different specializations which are in- Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and in Information Technology. All these courses are run under the self- finance scheme.
The entire academics is run here by a cohort of nine departments, each with expertise in its own area. These are the departments for – Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, MBA, Applied Science & Humanities and for Electronics & Communication Engineering. Admissions to the UG programmes is via the State Level Combined Entrance Examination conducted together by the MTU (Mahamaya Technical University) in Noida and the GBTU (Gautam Buddha Technical University) in Lucknow. The GBTU and the MTU are the two parts of the AKTU. The PG level admissions are also via entrance tests conducted by the two.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. A convenience store is also located within campus. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
The BIET has done quite well across ranking platforms. It has been given a AAA rating among engineering colleges by the Careers 360 magazine. The placements have likewise remained steady, with top companies recruiting from the student pool. Some of the top recruiters in recent seasons have been the likes of- Accenture, Adobe, DSCL Sugar, Infosys, Angel Broking, Birla Soft, DSC, Samsung, iGate, Ifcon, KSFL, Technip, HCL, Unilever, Lohia, New Holland, New Gen, Sapient, JK Group, Soma, JSW, Era, Global Logic, Torry Harris, Synergy, Syntellect and Wipro amongst others. The BIET in Jhansi is also a key facilitator of a Ministry of HRD initiative with the World Bank. It is a programme titled TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme).
