The Adaikalamatha College at Thanjavur was set up in 1988 and is under affiliation, located at Arun Nagar, Vallam in Tamil Nadu. The institution is located in a 28-acre campus with 27 programmes of study in fourteen degree fields. The college has 797 students enrolled  and 56 faculty members qualified and experienced which makes the strength of the college good student teacher ratio. The college is affiliated to the National Council for Teacher Education [ NCTE ] and offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctorate courses in Commerce, Arts, Science, Management and Education.

Adaikalamatha College has a lot of facilities that have been put in place to improve the student experience. Its modern library contains more than 16,600 books and publications, it also subscribes to national and international magazines and e-journals. That the institution is technologically inclined stands out from the IT’ facilities that include 62 computers with LAN connection and a 4 Mbps internet leased line. For the learner with disabilities, there are separately_hostel accommodations for boys and girls in terms of design, lighting, power supply, and quality diet. The college also has a fitness aspect by offering exercise facilities and fitness centre where students can exercise to keep a healthy life.

The various programmes offered by Adaikalamatha College clearly show that it offers a wide range of programmes to the students. It has offered 27 programmes, of which offer full time undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Among the undergraduate programmes include B.Com, BA in English, BBA, BCA and the B.Sc programmes offered are in Computer Science, Applied Physics, Electronics , Mathematics and Information Technology. The post graduate courses available in this institution include M.Com, MSW, MCA, MBA and M.Sc computed science, applied physics and Information technology, and information Technology. The college also offers doctoral programmes in Management Studies, Computer Science and English as a testimony to the institutions’ research orientations.

The admission to Adaikalamatha College differs from COURSE. For B.Ed and D.T.Ed programmes there is direct admission given to the students on merit level depending upon their marks scored in the examination or entrance test as per rules framed by the state government & University. For the B.Ed programme there are 100 seats available and for the D.T.Ed programme there are 50 seats.
