The Ballari Institute of Technology and Management (BITM) is located in the city of Bellary which is in Karnataka. It was established in the year 1997. It is an ISO certified institute, for following the conditions put in by the IM Moody International. It has also been accredited by both the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) and the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council) with a B grade rating. The BITM is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technical University (VTU), based in Belgaum, also in Karnataka. The institute has an eleven- acre campus. The BITM is part of a group of institutions run by the group, all based in the city of Bellary. These institutions are the- Sanjay Gandhi Polytechnic, Ballari Business College, BPSC Pre University College, Bellary Industrial Training Centre, Basavarajeswari Kids Academy and the Basavarajeswari Public School & College.
Courses are available here at the BITM at both the UG as well as the PG levels. At the undergrad level, B.E. programmes are available in the five engineering areas of- Computer Science, Civil, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. At the master’s level, M. Tech programmes may be pursued in more specialized topics. These are for the areas of- Digital Electronics, Power Electronics, Design Engineering, Computer Network Engineering and for VLSI & Embedded Systems. There is also an MBA that is on offer here. There are also academic departments for the fundamental sciences in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Research is a key part of the BITM in Karnataka. To this end, a VTU approved research centre is there on campus, for which several of the departments here have been ratified. Under this, are the departments for- Physics, MBA, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Chemistry and for Mathematics. Admissions to all academic programmes, is via the state- wise or nationally recognized entrance examinations. A National Conference on Recent Avenues in Engineering and Technology (NCRAET) has been held in 2018 on campus itself. The publication partner for this event was the IEAE (Institute for Exploring Advances in Engineering).
For greater collaboration with industry, the BITM has forged several tie-ups over knowledge collaboration and consulting assignments. IBM has curated a Centre of Excellence for Cloud Computing, Mobile Application Development and Big Data Analytics. A Centre of Excellence in Java, manual and automatic testing has been set up with J Spiders and Q Spiders. Harita Techserv, which is actually a unit within the TVS Group, has set up a Centre of Excellence in design engineering. This is using Siemens’s technology for NX CAM design and modelling. A Faculty Development Programme has been curated by Wipro towards innovations in teaching methodology. A Campus Connect programme has also been forged with Infosys to training students in the area of Python programming. Another collaboration is with National Instruments for the students to get trained at the company’s main lab. And finally, there is one with the Texas Instruments for developing competencies in the areas of VLSI Design and Embedded Systems.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. A convenience store is also located within campus. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
The BITM has always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students of the BITM have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme). Clubs and committees also flourish on campus. These in turn conduct large scale central events. Vaisheshika is the annual event conducted by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Big Ants is the name of the movie club. 3 Bay is the name of newsletter signed off from here. The Knowledge Café ensures a meeting point for knowledge transfer. Another is the Electrical Engineering Forum. The placements have likewise kept steady. Some of the key recruiters in recent seasons have been the likes of – HCL, Infosys, L&T Infotech, Siemens, Tech Mahindra, JSW, RIL, ITC, Manya Education, KPIT Cummins, Keane Software, Mphasis and Oracle besides others.
