The Christ College of Engineering (CCE) is located in the town of Thrissur, which lies in the state of Kerala. It is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam University, based in the Kerala state capital of Thiruvananthapuram. It is thus approved by the UGC (University Grants Commission). The CCE is one of the youngest among the more prominent colleges in the country having been established only in 2015. The administration of the CCE is mainly in the hands of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI).
The Christ College of Engineering as yet only provides engineering courses at the undergrad level. The B. Tech programme may thus be availed here within any of the five engineering streams, which are in- Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics and in Electronics & Communication. Admissions to these programmes is on academic merit, with nationally and state- wise recognized entrance exams, also considered. The entire academics here is run by a cohort of six departments. These departments are from among the five areas of engineering. In addition, there is the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities. Here the fundamental sciences and the English language training are taken care of. The sciences include Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Humanities also includes Economics here.
There are several committees and cells on campus to handle the student affairs. There is a Parent Teacher Association to develop strong bonds on campus. A Students’ Grievance Redressal Committee exists to look into any matters of complaint. The Library Council is there for the proper maintenance of the library infrastructure as well as to add to the intellectual prowess there. There are also welfare committees for students and the staff. There are also committees for Art and Sports, so that these critical matters are looked into. This ensures a more thriving on- campus life. There is also a Placement Cell here to help students get placed with some companies from campus itself.
The CCE in Kerala has always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students of the CCE have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme). Even though the college is new, students have already made prowess in different areas, thus raining the CCE’s profile. Students have participated and even won laurels in competitions held by the FISAT (Federal Institute of Science and Technology) such as the Innovation Challenge, Software Hackathon and in Hardware Hackathon as well as in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH). In sports, the basketball team stood first in the PECSAGA (Private Engineering College Sports and Games Association) championship.
Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) has been an active forum here. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models. The specific focus here is towards innovative practices with a business potential. A unique initiative at the CCE is the facility to prepare and sit for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) paper. This is to help students improve their English and eventually qualify to live or work abroad, which is much in demand in the state of Kerala.
The campus has much to offer. There is a sports field where outdoor games may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. There is even a swimming pool. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. Just outside campus there are convenience stores and banks facilities with ATMs. Public transport is also quite adequate in the city.
