      The Department of Law at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, is one of the premier institutions for legal education in the north-eastern region of India. The department offers comprehensive law programs designed to produce top-notch legal practitioners. The department is approved by the Bar Council of India and has seven talented faculty members dedicated to nurturing future legal professionals.

      Admissions at the NEHU Department of Law are keen to choose only the best candidates available for these courses. In its merit-based admission process, it has been using the Common University Entrance Test in deciding its undergraduate programs, in which a cumulative assessment is also made possible all over India by testing what the student can do or know in suitable academic streams.

      For the flagship BA LLB (Hons) programme, admission is granted through CUET (UG) scores. The department also offers a doctoral programme in Law for scholars wishing to pursue advanced research in legal studies.

      Application Procedure

      Application procedure of the Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong is also program-specific:

      For BA LLB (Hons) Programme:

      1.. Complete the Common University Entrance Test UG with the National Testing Agency portal.

      2. Appear for CUET (UG) as per schedule.

      3. The result of CUET will qualify the students to seek admission in the Department of Law, NEHU. The result will be announced on the university's website.

      4. Obtain all relevant information from concerned sources and submit the application form.

      5. Upload all relevant documents:

      • CUET (UG) score card
      • 10+2 or equivalent mark sheet and certificate
      • Proof of date of birth
      • Category certificate (if applicable)
      • Recent passport-size photograph6. Pay the application fee as required by the university.

      7. Submit the completed application form online.

      8. Wait for the merit list to be published by the university.

      9. If selected, complete the admission formalities, including document verification and fee payment, as per the instructions of the university.

      For LLM and Ph.D Law programs:

      General procedures for application:

      1. Checking the eligibility criteria from the website NEHU.

      2. Submission of the application form for the chosen course.

      3. Submission of documents: graduate certificates, mark sheets, other certificates required.

      4. Application fee.

      5. Entrance tests and interviews, if required by the department.

      6. Waiting for the selected list and completing all formalities when selected.

      Degree-wise Admission Process

      BA LLB (Hons): The induction into the five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) program will be through the Common University Entrance Test CUET UG performance. The total sanctioned strength for this program is 60 students. CUET (UG) score, being the selection criterion will ensure that each applicant gets a fair and standardised admission process throughout the country.

      LLM: The Department of Law offers a two-year LLM program with an intake capacity of 10 students. Specific admission details for the LLM program are not available; however, it is assumed that the admission process takes into consideration the performance of the candidate in his or her undergraduate law degree, which could also be supported by an entrance examination or interview.

      There is also a doctoral degree in Law, which is offered for advanced legal research. Admission to the Ph.D program usually involves a rigorous selection procedure that includes the taking of a written test and interview and the evaluation of the research proposal by the candidate. More information cannot be gathered about the specific admission procedure into the Ph.D program.
