The Department of Law, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, is one of the most premier institutions for legal education in the valley of Kashmir. The Department is recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and provides a host of law programmes for the purpose of grooming the next generation of legal professionals. The Department of Law, University of Kashmir admission is extremely competitive and intended to choose only the most meritorious students for its courses.

The Department of Law, University of Kashmir provides five full-time courses for meeting the various requirements of legal education. These include a three-year LLB, a five-year BA LLB integrated course, a two-year LLM postgraduate course, and a six-year integrated PhD in Law for advanced legal research. There is also the supplementary shift of LLB available with the department to reach more students.

LLM is the Master of Laws, a postgraduate course in law that requires two years, with an intake of 25 seats approved for the course. The course has been designed for graduates of LLB who want further specialisation in specific branches of law.
