Admission Process

Selection of Students will be only on the basis of inter-se-merit. They should be eligible for admission on the basis of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test(NEET-UG). For open merit candidate, they should have obtained the 50 % marks in the qualifying exam for the core subjects. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/SEBC will be considered for admission to this course only if they have scored a minimum of 40% marks in the National Entrance Examination. Candidates with locomotor disability of lower limbs between 40% to 70% will be considered for admission to BDS course only if they have scored a minimum of 45% marks in the National Entrance Examination.

Eligibility Criteria

No candidate shall be allowed to be admitted to the medical curriculum of the first Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course until:

a. He/ She has completed the age of 17 years on or before the 31st of December

of the year commencing the prescribed academic session of the said course.

b. He/ She has passed a qualifying examination as under:

A candidate who has passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, or Examinations recognized equivalent thereto by KUHS with 50% mark in Biology/Biotechnology separately and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology put together are eligible. The candidate must study English as a subject in the Higher Secondary course In respect of candidates belonging to Socially & Educationally Backward Classes the minimum marks required in qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology taken together and in Biology/Biotechnology separately is relaxed to 45% instead of 50% as above.

With respect to candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the minimum marks required in the qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology taken together is relaxed to 40%. The eligibility criteria for admission to persons with disability of lower limbs (40 to 70%)– will be a minimum of 45% marks instead of 50% taken together in qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination for admission in BDS course or any other examination which, in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University/ Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical test in each of these subjects and English.

NATIONALITY: Candidates must be Citizens of India / children or dependents of Non-Resident Indians. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Overseas Citizen of India [OCI] will also be treated at par with Indian citizens for the limited purpose of admission. However, JPIQ/OCI candidates will not be eligible for any kind of reservation.

AGE: Applicants shall complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December.

ACADEMIC: As per the 'Dental Council of India BDS Course Regulation 2007', the applicant should have passed the qualifying examinations as under:

(a). The Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics or any other elective subjects with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on education or a pass in plus two under the CBSE stream of syllabus.

Note: Where the course content is not as prescribed for 10+2 education structure of the National Committee, the candidates will have to undergo a period of one-year pre-professional training before admission to the college.

Or

The Intermediate examination in science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining the body with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology which shall include a practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.

Or

The pre-professional/pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, after passing either the higher secondary school examination or the pre-university or an equivalent examination. The pre-professional/premedical examination shall include a practical test in Physics, Chemistry & Biology and also English as a compulsory subject.

Or

The first year of the three years degree course of a recognized university, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided the examination is a "University Examination" and candidate has passed 10+2 with English at a level not less than a core course.

Or

B.Sc examination of an Indian University, provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc examination with mot less than two of the following subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology) and further that he/she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with the following subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.

Or

Any other examination which, in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry, and Biology including practical test in each of these subjects and English.
