The Feroze Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (FGIET) was established back in the year 2004. It is located in the town of Rae Bareli, in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). The district of Rae Bareli has since long been associated with the Gandhi family, so this institute has also been named after Shri Feroze Gandhi. He was a noted politician and journalist in his time. He was also husband to former Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi and father to another PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi. The FGIET’s campus is spread over twenty- three acres of land. It is affiliated to the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), located in the state capital of Lucknow. This affiliation, ensures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission).
The technical courses at the Feroze Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology have also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). Courses are offered, here at this college for both the UG as well as PG levels. At the undergrad level, the B. Tech programmes are available for the engineering areas of- Mechanical, Computer Science, Aeronautical and for Electronics & Communication. At the master’s level, the MCA (Masters of Computer Applications) is the only programme offered here. The entire academics here at the FGIET is run by a cohort of seven departments, each with expertise in its own area.
Four of these seven departments are for the areas in which the B. Tech degrees may be pursued in here. Another one is for the MCA programme. The other two are for the Applied Sciences and for Humanities. The former takes care of the fundamental sciences involving physics, chemistry and mathematics. The Department of Humanities runs the language courses as part of the studies here. The English language is used as the medium in all these subjects. Students are selected on the basis of scores at the UPSEE (Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam) conducted by the AKTU.
Substantial amount of research also takes place, here at the FGIET. An MOU has been signed to this extent with the IIT in Kanpur. They are jointly developing an Integrated Aerospace Development Programme. As the name suggests, this is for the promotion of aviation and aerospace engineering in the country. The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi is the body that runs a vocational course for those seeking industrial training via this initiative. All this research- focus has helped the college be placed high, across ranking platforms. The Careers 360 magazine for instance has placed the Rae- Bareli based Feroze Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology at the AAA category.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM, convenience stores and access to public transport, may all be availed just outside the campus premises. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor games. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus has adequate IT infrastructure. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to other sources of knowledge and information.
The placements have likewise been ramped up in recent years. Some of the leading companies have visited the campus, for recruitment of students. A few of the leading names to appear on campus over the recent seasons, include the likes of- Vivo, Lava, India mart, Idea, KVC, ZTE, NIIT Technologies, Grey Meter, Dukami, Agile Soft tech, Josh tech, SPi, u Certify, Technosys, Tata Group, Indus Towers, Informatica, Resource Innovations, Synapse India, Epsilon Wings and Wipro amongst others of the ilk.
