The Goa College of Engineering is also known as the GEC, as the college is popularly known as the Goa Engineering College. It is the oldest engineering college in the state of Goa, having been established back in the year 1967. This was just a few years after attaining independence from Portuguese rule, and joining the Union of India. The college is located at the Farmagudi plateau in Ponda.
