Government college so affordable, good infrastructure, good faculty and overall industry exposure.The peers u get from the college is of good quality from many places and this helps you in developing you as a person.there are many events going on in college although the year and this helps you. The campus is advertised as 206 acres but less than 5% is utilised. Not well maintained. Cows are seen more in number than students. Hostels are very dirty and always smell. Hostel toilets are also very dirty and probably breed mosquitoes. Hostel students are more into drinking smoking and weed than doing things they should be doing. Admissions and Fees: Admissions are made through aggregate PCM marks in the higher secondary exam. GEC is the first choice for admissions over some other private colleges. The tuition fee is about 16,000 per yr. Teaching: The college has some dedicated professors esp in Mech, Civil, and Electrical. The college is trying to maintain high standards in ETC, Comp and IT. Of late there has been a spurt of visiting faculties who are essentially BE pass out with little or no experience. Classes are held from 9am to 5pm. Labs are good but like most govt colleges are ill maintained. Other facilities: The college has an excellent library. The library also has the seminar room (with LCD) which houses all the talks, symposia, and placements. Computer labs are reasonably good. The lab has access to some recent software. The labs, as well as hostels, have net connectivity. The Gymkhana though ill maintained is still used by students. The college has a basketball court, badminton court, table tennis facilities as well as a huge ground which serves as a football ground, cricket ground and also a running track for yearly sports fest. The college has its own buses which ply every half and hour or so from the college to ponder bus stand. There are 4 boys hotels and 2 girls hotels. Each hostel has its own mess facility. The canteen serves the day scholars. Extra-Curricular Activities:The students are involved in a variety of activities around the year. Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Diwali, Krishna Janmashtami, Teachers Day are celebrated with great pomp and joy. An all Goa singing competition is organised on Teachers Day annually. Inter-year games are organised throughout the year. Some of them being Inter yr. cricket, football, and basketball. Cultural Festival: Happenings is the cultural festival of the college and is held every Feb (somehow 14 Feb is one of the days) The festival has completed 25 years and is the best of its kind in goa. Though the festival is losing its popularity of late the students are putting their best to keep the flag flying. The festival hosts a rock show on the final day which brings all the 'ROCK FANS' onto the engineering hilltop. Technical Festival: Kalp is the technical festival. Started in 2003 it is picking its pace. Each of the branches has its own association. Talks are organised regularly by these associations. College magazine: This is called REFLEX. It is out by the end of the academic year. The magazine is finding it difficult to maintain the standards which some earlier editions had enjoyed. Placement: The college has a separate placement section. This section invites companies for placement, organises sessions to groom the students to face interviews and maintains the necessary statistics. Alumni and laurels: The college has some great alumni. Manguesh Korgaonkar, Head, SOM, IITB. Ashank Desai, Master CMD to name. Many of the alumni have made their mark as prominent industrialists in Goa, other parts of India. Many are settled in the US. A few of them are serving the college as professors. The college has a few people joining IIT's, IISC, IIM's and GIMS every year. However, it is sad that the college doesn't have a good alumni association. The students engage in University sports and win quite a few events every year. MOU with IITB: The college has signed an MOU with IITB which entitles few students to do their final yr project in IIT. A few faculties get to do their PG in IIT and profs from IITB come to deliver lectures. Trivia: The college has a huge windmill which never worked right from its installation. The college doesn't have a single coconut tree even though it is located in a state full of coconuts and toddy tappers. Near the civil dept there are some trivial structures which don't seem to be built with any possible motive in mind Memoir If you happen to land in there don't forget to ask the boys around for the SARDAR in room no 7 in Hostel 2.

Awesome Area of College

Institute has got one of the best faculties. The college life is bit rigorous. But that's what helps one to develop the skill of time management. It has got one of the best hostels and away from city area. Good coordination of instructors with the student.

Teaching and fun in GEC

This college is good if you can do your studies on your own. The teaching is acceptable provided you show your interest in learning. You will have a lot of fun if you are staying in the hostel then well and good. Maintainance of the hostel in little bad, but it's acceptable. Faculties are good. Here you will have best four years of your life. No CC Tv camera.

Prestigious college of the Universe Sexy right

It is called as one of the prestigious colleges in India but I think this is very bad. I do not think in this way at all. Our Principal says Our college has the potential to compete with international levels. I think he just cracked a joke Ha Ha Ha. Our faculties are very good but some of them only know to take grudges against students and that includes our principal too. He has not done anything good for our college only promises to take our college to a next level. I guess he might be able to do this only when he is in grave. Hostel life is good but the maintainance is hopeless and we don't expect anything from the hostel warden. The academic section is living in their 60's and 70's. Wake up Ladies and Men you Are in 21st century. Learn to be a lot active. There is a lot to speak but I think this space is not enough to write and u people may also get annoyed so I would like to end here. But this is just the Beginning, there is a hell lot to talk about my so-called prestigious college of the world. Ha Ha Ha

It's a good college, nice teaching faculty in our branch, at least, very poor support for sports by the college. Good college placements but should be made better. The mess in the hostel is not good (hostel 2) and it's very expensive. The staff of academic section is not good plz change them.

Remarkable progress till date after my graduation

I have learned lot of skills personal as well us technical, as I was involved in lot of activity during my college days like photography club, electronic club, sports activity, I was badminton secretary, now infrastructure and faculty-wise college have developed tremendously, but there is still room to improve and I feel college management is working on right track, so keep it up .

Great 4 year experience

The college is the oldest engineering college in the state of Goa. It is spread over a large expanse of land atop a hill. The professors there are of the highest quality with huge grants coming in from the government every year. Great college to be at. The placements in the college have taken a turn for the better over the years with a large number of core companies visiting the campus.

excellent teachers in my time like prof.bhatt mathematics

it is my luck that i studied engineering in this college.I got admission in this college in the year 1971 and at that time this college was in Panjim situated on small hill top. from this college the view of miramar beach was very good.i mxed with goan culture which was my unforgettable experience.about one and half year this college was shifted to Farmagudi again on small height. at that time this campus was slightly far away from habitants. so we use to go Ponda for our daily needs.the hostel was newly constructed and was Y shape in plan.we really enjoyed and simultaneously studied .in my time mr RL Mehrotra was Principal. prof Karmarkar use to teach us soil mechanics. prof Kotak theory of structure and prof Bhatt mathematics. I can not forget these persons in my whole life time. I love Goa Engineering College.

Awesome Experience in GEC

It is a big campus of 260 acres with a good infrastructure consisting of various departments, gymkhana, sports facilities, canteen, various food joints etc. I very much enjoyed the 4 years that i spent in this college. The bunking of lectures, playing in the gymkhana, sitting and wasting time chatting with friends, those drives and walks in and around campus, sleepless nights in the hostels and sleeping during the lectures, last minute studies with friends in the library will always be remembered. I'm really gonna miss this place.

Untapped potential

GEC is the go to college in Goa for Engineering, leaving the NIT and BITS that is. That being the case it gets the cream of the crowd with some of the best students in the state and some from outside. After entering the college, the situation is a little messed up. The infrastructure of some of the departments is pathetic. Some of the new departments are fine but not technologically up to the mark. The faculty are inconsistent in terms of efficiency and level of teaching. Most of the professors do not keep themselves updated to industry standards. The students however learn to be self sufficient and smart. All in all it's a good college with a lot of potential.

The place that taught me the meaning of life

What can I say about GEC? The oldest engineering college in Goa. I was initially disappointed at not having gotten admission into a better college like BITS or NIT, but a few days in GEC, and I was glad to have made it there. Sure, the facilities are not the best in its class and placements aren't going to make your jaw drop, but what GEC has to offer is an experience of a lifetime.

Its fun and tough. We all are self taught as the faculty are not very dedicated. Not great Placements. The campus life is awesome with not much restrictions. The infrastructure is per the government college standards. Recently the college introduced uniforms for the first years, i don't see its positive side.
