The Government Polytechnic, Bareilly was established in 1958. It started as the Government Technical Institute. The college is affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Board of Technical Education, Lucknow and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Government Polytechnic, Bareilly Courses include Diploma in Engineering with different specialisations.

Each diploma course offered at Government Polytechnic, Bareilly spans a duration of 3 years and is available in full-time mode. To secure admission to Government Polytechnic, students need to qualify for the Entrance Examination conducted by the Joint Entrance Examination Council, Lucknow, also known as the JEECUP exam.
