Government Polytechnic Mumbai was established in 1960. Government Polytechnic Mumbai is an autonomous institute of Government of Maharashtra. The status of autonomy was granted in the year 1994. Government Polytechnic Mumbai was approved by All India Council for Technical Education.
Government Polytechnic Mumbai admissions are offered in the field of engineering at the diploma level. The diploma courses include Diploma in Civil Engineering(Sandwich Pattern), Diploma in Mechanical Engineering(Sandwich Pattern), Diploma in Computer Engineering(Sandwich Pattern) and some other specialised courses.
Government Polytechnic Mumbai has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell which provides training to students regarding placements. According to 2024 placements, 23 students got placed. Whereas in 2023 placements, 41 students got placed and in 2022 placements, 92 students got placed. College Infrastructure
Government Polytechnic Mumbai has an old but well-maintained campus. The computer labs are updated with required systems and internet, while classrooms are simple yet comfortable. The library is rich in technical books, and workshops give a good learning space. However, hostel seats are limited and get filled quickly.

College Infrastructure
The infrastructure of Government Polytechnic Mumbai is quite dismal. The classrooms are overcrowded and poorly maintained, with broken desks and chairs. The labs are outdated and lack essential equipment, making it difficult for students to complete their projects.

See after the Diploma in Engineering, a student can apply for the Lateral entry BE/BTech program. The lateral entry BE/BTech program provides admission to the the Diploma in Engineering students directly to the 2nd year of the BE/BTech course. So if your brother, wants to do the course of BE/BTech then he can apply for the Lateral entry program.
Now Government Polytechnic Mumbai is a Government affiliated polytechnic college of Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai. The college don't offers the course of BE/BTech in any stream.
