The Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology (GTBIT) is located in the national capital of New Delhi. It was conceived as a top- notch technical educational institution by the founders at the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). The said foundation took place in the year 1999, right towards the end of the last millennium. The sprawling campus is located in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden block. The GTBIT has been affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). This affiliation ensures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). The tech courses here have also met the approval of the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).
The college has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning an A grade rating in it. The Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology has a single- minded focus towards undergrad engineering courses alone. As yet, no master’s or doctoral degree programmes have been begun here. The B. Tech programmes are available for the engineering areas of- Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. The entire academics here is run by a set of departments, each possessing expertise in its own areas. There are departments for each of the academic areas offered here. Admissions to these programmes is via the IPU- CET (Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test).
Research also plays a key role in the development of this institution, both for the students, as well as for the faculty members. To support this, the library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. In order to prop up the students, several initiatives have been taken on campus. Students are encouraged to take up industry projects and be engaged in internships. This is especially true for the third and final years of study here. Industrial and plant visits are organized by the college, so that students may get a feel of how the real engineering process works.
Several agreements have also been inked with some of the leading corporates to foster an improved industry- academia link. This helps during the placements process, as well as in the college earning some consulting assignments. A Centre of Excellence has been curated by American tech giant IBM for software training purposes. IBM helps with curriculum development, to make it more industry- oriented. Another American tech giant- Microsoft, too has established its own IT Academy here on campus. Bengaluru- based Infosys has established the Campus Connect scheme, by which there is constant exchange in ideas between the institute and the company itself.
Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) has been an active forum here. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models. Key focus is paid here towards the MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) segment. A special lab has been created here which goes by the name of Innovation Design and Development Lab. Students may here experiment with their innovative, creative and experimental ideas, well equipped with the best of lab facilities.
The campus has much to offer. There are PG facilities for both boys and girls near the area. Banking facilities with ATM and convenience stores are available right outside the college campus. This campus is also extremely well connected to the public transport grid via the Delhi Metro. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus has adequate internet facilities. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria.
A number of fun events are also held, here at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology. GATES (GTBIT Annual Techno- cultural Event for creative Souls) is the name of the premier annual tech- cultural event here. The placements have also improved as a result of all this outreach. This particular aspect is taken care of, by the Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC). There is an IIPC Society that comprises of the students and faculty anchors. Several student societies also take part in the outreach process. Such societies are there for sports, technical, literary and cultural activities. The one for the last is here known as Et Cetera. There is also a team for Model United Nations, known creatively as MUNistry.
