The Institute for Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) was started back in the year 1984. The same year, also saw the opening of the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE) come in to being in Hyderabad, then the capital of undivided Andhra Pradesh (AP). The IFHE is right now, one of the leading educational groups in the country. Its tentacles spread far and wide, across multiple locations in India. Some of the leading cities with presence of IFHE centres include the likes of- Kolkata, Bengaluru, Shimla, Gurugram, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune, Agartala, Gangtok, Dehradun, Shillong, Raipur, Ahmedabad, Kohima, Ranchi and of course in Hyderabad.
These institutions exist under two broad brand names- the ICFAI University and the IBS (ICFAI Business School). The total campus area of the IFHE runs into ninety -two acres of land. The ICFAI Law School is now known as the Faculty of Law, as a constituent unit of the IFHE, Hyderabad. This college was founded in the year 2010. Being a constituent unit, assures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). The law courses here have also been ratified by the BCI (Bar Council of India), as is the norm for legal education in the country. This college offers courses right from the UG till doctoral levels.
The undergrad programme may be pursued here only under the five- year mode. It is integrated LLB plus programme. The LLB of course is the standard degree offered to Common Law countries’ legal study graduates. This may be undertaken in combo with two options. One of them is the most common BA LLB. The other is the BBA LLB. The one with BBA was started due to the realization that students wanted a study theme which could combine the legal and business aspects. It even enables the smooth transition to a life of entrepreneurship or future MBA studies which many students opt for anyway.
At the post grad level, there is the one- year LLM. There are two options for this course in terms of academic areas. These are for Taxation and for Corporate & Commercial Law. At this level, the studies get more specialized. This is the programme where research is highly encouraged. In addition, several certificate programmes are also on offer here. These may be taken up by the enrolled students as add- on courses, or by some external ones as well. They are primarily meant for working professionals, seeking a skill upgrade. These certifications may be undertaken here for the areas of- Cyber Laws, Infrastructure Laws, Law of Financial Services, Immigration Laws, Solid Waste Management & Law, International Trade Law, Goods & Services Tax Law and in Forensic Science & Law.
Doctoral programmes too are on offer here. The college has also been extremely proactive in sealing agreements with national and foreign universities. This includes the NLSIU in Bengaluru and the Widener University in the USA. The ICFAI Law School is also a member of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS). Research is another big part of this college. The faculty members and even some of the students have got their works published across respected forums and publications. Some have even written full- fledged books, or chapters/ parts within books. Many have had their papers read out at conferences and seminars.
The ICFAI Law School hosts its own fair share of such seminars and conferences on campus. A number of case studies have also been developed by this law college, as well as the IFHE in totality. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played.
Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. An important aspect of law college life is the moot court contests. For this a separate hall has been curated, replete with all real court room paraphernalia. This then resembles the closest to the real model. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled and has adequate IT infrastructure. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria.
A number of students have even won national level awards while representing the college. This has happened in moot court and debate contests, as well as in sports. A few have even achieved international fame in all sports. The campus placements have also thus been boosted in this manner. Some of the key recruiters over the recent seasons have been the likes of- HDFC, Synergy Legal, SAMIS, Quis Lex, Mind crest, IP Markets and more. The college rankings have likewise shot up. The Careers 360 magazine has placed the ICFAI Law School at a stupendous rank 11th among law colleges, all over India.
