About College

The Institute for Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) was started back in the year 1984. The same year, also saw the opening of the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE) come in to being in Hyderabad, then the capital of undivided Andhra Pradesh (AP). The IFHE is right now, one of the leading educational groups in the country. Its tentacles spread far and wide, across multiple locations in India. Some of the leading cities with presence of IFHE centres include the likes of- Kolkata, Bengaluru, Shimla, Gurugram, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune, Agartala, Gangtok, Dehradun, Shillong, Raipur, Ahmedabad, Kohima, Ranchi and of course in Hyderabad.

These institutions exist under two broad brand names- the ICFAI University and the IBS (ICFAI Business School). The total campus area of the IFHE runs into ninety -two acres of land. The ICFAI Law School is now known as the Faculty of Law, as a constituent unit of the IFHE, Hyderabad. This college was founded in the year 2010. Being a constituent unit, assures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). The law courses here have also been ratified by the BCI (Bar Council of India), as is the norm for legal education in the country. This college offers courses right from the UG till doctoral levels.

The undergrad programme may be pursued here only under the five- year mode. It is integrated LLB plus programme. The LLB of course is the standard degree offered to Common Law countries’ legal study graduates. This may be undertaken in combo with two options. One of them is the most common BA LLB. The other is the BBA LLB. The one with BBA was started due to the realization that students wanted a study theme which could combine the legal and business aspects. It even enables the smooth transition to a life of entrepreneurship or future MBA studies which many students opt for anyway.

At the post grad level, there is the one- year LLM. There are two options for this course in terms of academic areas. These are for Taxation and for Corporate & Commercial Law. At this level, the studies get more specialized. This is the programme where research is highly encouraged. In addition, several certificate programmes are also on offer here. These may be taken up by the enrolled students as add- on courses, or by some external ones as well. They are primarily meant for working professionals, seeking a skill upgrade. These certifications may be undertaken here for the areas of- Cyber Laws, Infrastructure Laws, Law of Financial Services, Immigration Laws, Solid Waste Management & Law, International Trade Law, Goods & Services Tax Law and in Forensic Science & Law.

Doctoral programmes too are on offer here. The college has also been extremely proactive in sealing agreements with national and foreign universities. This includes the NLSIU in Bengaluru and the Widener University in the USA. The ICFAI Law School is also a member of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS). Research is another big part of this college. The faculty members and even some of the students have got their works published across respected forums and publications. Some have even written full- fledged books, or chapters/ parts within books. Many have had their papers read out at conferences and seminars.

The ICFAI Law School hosts its own fair share of such seminars and conferences on campus. A number of case studies have also been developed by this law college, as well as the IFHE in totality. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played.

Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. An important aspect of law college life is the moot court contests. For this a separate hall has been curated, replete with all real court room paraphernalia. This then resembles the closest to the real model. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled and has adequate IT infrastructure. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria.

A number of students have even won national level awards while representing the college. This has happened in moot court and debate contests, as well as in sports. A few have even achieved international fame in all sports. The campus placements have also thus been boosted in this manner. Some of the key recruiters over the recent seasons have been the likes of- HDFC, Synergy Legal, SAMIS, Quis Lex, Mind crest, IP Markets and more. The college rankings have likewise shot up. The Careers 360 magazine has placed the ICFAI Law School at a stupendous rank 11th among law colleges, all over India.

Life at ICFAI Law School, Hyderabad

Greetings to readers! I did fairly well in academics , which is why my good wishes thought that I was cut out to be an engineer. I acquiesced, ignoring the myriad career options which I hesitated to explore. It was only when I was in X standard that I realised that I had acumen for legal studies, a field which many of you readers love. I fell in love with this arena because of the simple reason that it involves exploration of the society you live in. So here I am in ICFAI LAW SCHOOL HYDERABAD. When I entered the campus for the first time, the greenery and serenity of the campus assured me that I was at the right place. The best part is NJ YASASVY MEMORIAL Library, which is so well equipped and maintained that every legal practitioner in this city wants to have access to it. The library along with its online portal caters very well to all our research project needs, which allows us to gain detailed knowledge about a subject. I met the vice chancellor the very first day and was left impressed by his amicable behaviour (because I had expected a man of such stature to be bossy). You will love the way our curriculum has been framed so that in the first semester the emphasis is on building your rationale rather than learning laws. We undoubtedly have excellent faculty here and every student finds classes the best because he involves the entire class in discussions over relevant topics. The university organises seminars and workshops on a regular basis, which is, you all will agree, the best way to gain expertise in a field you have a vague idea of. The first month here is vibrantly full of activities. The seniors here are very chill, always ready to help you (be it about projects or parties). Then there are so many student committees, Debating society, moot court committee ,quiz committee, sports committee, cinema club to name a few to give you an all round feeling of a college. There are fests others like ICON icfai conference which involve students into a dialogue over issues that matter. Since the university believes in the holistic development of its students, we have umpteen extracurricular activities like the sports fest and we have the talent fest coming up next. This place offers numerous opportunities to imbibe the values to be a successful legal professional. You just need to strike the right balance and I guarantee that you won’t find this place burdensome ever. I believe that five years in this place is a fruitful investment. This place has a great pool of talent and I know it will very soon be the best law school in India. Best wishes

The Campus is very good and of course Hostel life is decent. But the quality of education needs to be improved more. Its not that bad but not that good either. Hostel and College has wifi, access to law journals, a decent library. But class room needs to be more better. College should focus on quality placements and obviously their product (students). However college is also making efforts towards it. Rest College life is excellent.

the hostel fees for BBA + llb students, for the boys hostel is around 1.6 lakh to 2.35 lakh  nmims for bba llb  .  In fact the actual fees may vary depending on the college and college facilities. for a good college having good hostel facilities, security and quality mess food with hygienic preparations, the above mentioned fees are applicable it can be slightly lower to some of the regional colleges where the facility are kept to standards with all the basic amenities required for the students.

Hi Haritha,

There are so many private colleges that you can join by going through their admission criteria, some of the colleges including Christ University, symbiosis,Amity University Jindal global law school etc. You might have to go through a separate admission test in these colleges but if you cannot make it through clay,do try for these colleges as they provide excellent education in law.
