R.G Kar Medical College & Hospital was established in 1886 at 161, Bowbazar Street as “The Calcutta School of Medicine” which was later changed to “The Calcutta Medical School” in 1887 in the month of August. The name of the institute was later changed to R.G Kar Medical College & Hospital in 1948. RGKMCH is affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata. Sports Facility- RGKMCH Kolkata provides sports facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports football, cricket, tennis, carrom, chess, table tennis etc. Students of the institute have also participated in many events and activities related to sports and also won prizes in different competitions.
The college's infrastructure is good with a lot of space. There are seperate buildings for the students. The hostels are spacious and are cleaned on a daily basis. The hostels are very near the main campus.
Infrastructure is good, but there is scope of improvement. Surgical departments are well organised and has all the high end infrastructure to provide state of the arts facility. Medical departments needs improvement.
To speak about Infrastructure, the college has all modern amenities including a/c lecture theatre,a/c library room with plenty of recent edition books,3hostels and 1 female hostel.All hostels are just 10 mins distance from college.
