Ca department at the peak of open partiality

Posted on 25 Apr' 18 by Aditi Mohan
Batch of 2018 | BCA
Ca department of smit, Sikkim has reached it's peak of "OPEN PARTIALITY" and soon will become the God in it. There's no problem with the college neither with its facilities and faculties but I don't understand why the hell they compare the students on the basis of their activities. Till this point everything is tolerable but the thing is that now we're getting marks on the basis of length of answer and handwriting as compared to the answer sheet of any individual student, is this a kindergarten or seriously a highly reputed college? Teachers should either change their habit of open partiality like this or else be ready to accept the how those students will show respect to them now. Everyone is not same that they'll tolerate these useless habits of teachers.

Amidst the mountains of a beautiful place called Sikkim, surrounded by river teesta, the campus offers one of the best infrastructure. Although the campus is very small but the newly built Sports complex and well maintained hostels more then cover up for it. Few faculties of the college are really learned and experienced but exposure to the industry is what lacks a bit here for which some major steps need to be taken. Also if you can stay without the lures like a shopping mall, clubs and movie theatres then this is the right place for you. To make the place more happening, there should definitely be a good movie theatre and good clubs nearby.

College provides good hostel facility, good labs for different departments, different modes of entertainment facilities. College should have dedicated Training and placement head who communicates regularly with companies and arranges more interviews and training opportunities.

College is situated in Sikkim , one of beautiful Place in India. It is an established Institute with the proper resource, opportunities, and guidance. The faculty is not the best . Some negatives points include such as Regional influence and bias,Practicals are not taken seriously. Placements are pretty good. Big firms such as TCS, dell, Infosys, Capgemini etc comes for placements. MIT, other than from making us AN ENGINEER, taught us to be sincere, disciplined, information savvy, an agile thinker, respectful and "to belong". Irrespective of the "placements offered" SMIT made us capable to be placed. My company (Ericsson) itself hired close to 30 bright SMITians in 2014 along with many more by the other MNCs We still miss lining up for the Sunday morning Maggi breakfast, the Saturdays Biryani, the hostel, classes and running for it so as not to lose out on the tightly calculated attendance (believe me..it was fun living with the sneakers always on and calculating the class is to bunk ratio) , running off to Gangtok for movies, roadside momos at "The Munnas", department nights, Kaalravs, working for Ed Boards, Crazy Late night studies, brainstorming sessions, Teacher guardian meetings and the tension piling up as a letter got drafted to be sent to our parents, our faculties who took good care of us ensuring that we study well and become good professionals and also extended a friendly persona, Exchanging the hard disks for movies, the cricket matches, projects, sessionals , semesters, the Mall ... and many many more .... almost everything that's there! It has a very strong community on the campus . Various students initiated in clubs of dance, debate, arts and music. Most good specialization is electronics and communication, followed by Computer Science.

Teachers are really bad, particularly in the computer science department. Most of this teacher are inexperienced students from the same college, who have failed to achieve anything in life. They are frustrated and bitter and try to make the students as miserable as themselves. No focus on writing good code, all you do is create lab files and write code on paper.

Very nice college. College life is pretty good. We learn something each and every day. We learn how to interact with people. Our faculties are marvellous. They are ready to help everywhere. Here in this college plenty of resources are available. A wise person needs to only use this in an effective way and in very positive way. Ya of course there are some limitations but if there is an advantage of anything then it's obvious.

It was a good experience for me at SMIT. Everything was fine there. But the best was the atmosphere. In terms of every aspect, there were some good things. In terms of placement, it needs improvement. It is situated near Teesta. Weather is cool. Free from pollution. Overall thumbs up!

Good College

1) The college is absolutely no doubt very good. The only thing missing here is a lack of transportation facilities and the lack of industrial approach. 2) Teachers are very good, I mean really very good, the 'AIM' of the teachers is not just to teach and go, but most faculties ensures that every student learns and understands the concept. Truly the mechanical faculty is very good and cooperating. 3) If a person wants to make any project of his/her interest has to buckle up, as its gonna be very difficult to do so. 4) The hostels are excellent and the surrounding mountains make it a delightful place to live in. 5) Coming to the mess part, the taste of the food will be rated as 2.5-3/5.I have got no words that's why have rated it. Obviously the taste of food of nowhere can replace the taste of the food as that of mother's hands. 6) we are just waiting for the new sports complex that is being built. Hoping that it will bring some refreshment in the students mind. 7) Cultural activities has got a boom recently.

The college is located in a beautiful place called Majitar in Sikkim. Surrounded with greenery, hills , rivers this place provided a perfect environment for the students to study. The faculty here does a great job providing their assistance to the students. The classes and practical lab sessions are well conducted. The hostels are very well run , providing proper rooms and food in mess. I had the privilege to make some great friends for my life time.

Engineering In The Midst of The Teesta

Posted on 23 Oct' 15 by Gaurav Basumatary
Batch of 2012
This is an engineering college in the beautiful village of Majhitar, East Sikkim. The serene Gangtok is just an hour's drive from here. SMIT, as it is famously called, is a name synonymous with the people of Sikkim and it's neighbouring West Bengal. The college has good faculties, a well stocked up library and very good hostel facilities. It also has a dedicated placement cell with companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Wells Fargo, Ericsson and many others regularly visiting the campus every year for recruiting the candidates for various profiles. All in all, I'll go with a 3.5 out of 5 stars for this college.

Even the scenic view of this college will make you fall in love with it. Surrounded by the hills of Sikkim and the river Teesta flowing right beside it it doesn't look any less than a tourist destination. A mix of people from all states of India can be found at this place with a little more from West Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Delhi. College life is enjoyable. The best departments are CSE, ECE, with maximum placements.

College life at my college was good. Even faculty was also very good and supporting. But the main problem was with the placement system of college. It was very difficult for a deserving candidate to get a job, as politics was all around. But by god's grace I managed to get one after many hurdles. But placement apart the culture, the environment was all very good.
