University Institute of Technology formerly known as the University Institute of Information Technology was established in 2000. UIT Shimla is a constituent institute of Himachal Pradesh University. UIT Shimla offers admissions to the B. Tech. in information technology, computer science engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and electronics & communication engineering programmes. All the UIT Shimla courses are approved by the All India Council of Technical  Education (AICTE). University Institute of Technology (UIIT) is located on the campus of Himachal Pradesh University at Summer Hill, Shimla. The university conducts a common entrance test for admission to B.Tech programmes. In addition to this, the institute also offers B.Tech lateral entry admissions. Placements at UIT Shimla are taken care of by the placement cell of the institute. Students can take a bus from Summer Hill Bus Station which is the nearest bus station to the institute.

UIT Shimla Admissions

The institute offers admission at only one level: undergraduate. The institute offers admission to B.Tech programmes in the following specialisations: civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and information technology. For B.Tech admissions, the institute conducts a common entrance test. Therefore, students aspiring to take admission in UIT Shimla must appear for the common entrance test.  B.Tech lateral entry admissions are offered to those students who will meet the eligibility criteria.

UIT Shimla Scholarships

The institute offers four merit scholarships, one for each B.Tech year subject to eligibility criteria. UIT Shimla merit scholarship is Rs. 500 per month. Students belonging to SC/ST/EWS categories can apply for various central and state government-sponsored scholarships. students are offered prizes each year for standing first, second and third in the semester examinations on the basis of aggregate marks scored in the semester examination.

The placement cell is actively involved in organising training and recruitment drives for students. The placement cell is in direct contact with the companies so that they can invite companies for the UIT Shimla placement drive.
