The Bharati Vidyapeeth (BVP) runs a group of institutions spread in different cities, and spanning a diverse range of academic areas. The first campus was begun in the city of Pune, in Maharashtra state. This was back in 1964, started by the renowned academician Shri Patangrao Kadam. Since then, the group has expanded to add more campuses in Pune itself, plus others in different parts of Maharashtra in the cities of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kolhapur, Sangli, Karad, Panchganj and in Satara. There is also a campus in New Delhi. And there is an international campus in Dubai, which is in the UAE (United Arab Emirates). The year 1996 saw the Bharati Vidyapeeth being recognized as a Deemed University by the UGC (University Grants Commission).
At present, the group trains students for courses on – Agriculture, Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Nursing, Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Environment Science, Catering Technology, Homeopathy and Hotel Management, besides a few more areas. This equals a total of seventy- eight schools and sixty institutes dealing with higher educations. A few of these are also into professional courses. Some schools at the K- 12 level are also operated by the group in Maharashtra.
The Bharati Vidyapeeth in Pune, has been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning an A+ distinction in it. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. The relevant technical courses here at the BVP are approved by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). The medical courses meanwhile are ratified by the MCI (Medical Council of India). The BVP is also a member of the AIU (Association of Indian Universities) and the ACU (Association of Commonwealth Universities).
The university has a total of 29 constituent colleges, affiliated to it, in the state of Maharashtra itself. These are spread over twelve academic areas. These areas are for- Science, Law, Nursing, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Medical Sciences, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Management Studies and in Engineering & Technology. There is also a School of Arts, Social Sciences and Commerce. Another is the unique School of Interdisciplinary Studies. Doctoral programmes may also be pursued here, at the BVP. Distance Education is also an area where much focus has been laid. The School of Distance Education (SDE) has made powerful strides, offering numerous courses on a remote learning basis.
The university also does a lot to make the foreign students comfortable. The BVP has tied up with the ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) to this end. The purpose of the ICCR is to deepen cultural ties between India and other countries. The university has curated the English Language Certificate Course (ELCC) to help students from non- English- speaking countries, familiarize themselves with the language. The focus is on grammar and written business communication. It also works the other way around as Indian students enrolled at the BVP can spend some time abroad. This is the reason for the curation of the SAP (Semester Abroad Programme) scheme to be implemented. Under this, students spend four to six months abroad in country, undergoing the academic programme there.
The BVP is also part of a Twinning Program (TP) where, through mutual transfer of credits, students may study a term in any of the partner institutes or universities abroad. Such agreements also help the university in research collaboration and for consulting assignments. These partner institutes of the BVP are strewn all over the world, in places such as the USA, UK, Sweden, Singapore, France, Australia and Ireland. There is also the provision of undergoing an internship abroad. The BVP is also a signatory to the ISEP (International Student Exchange Program). Periodic Study Tours (STs) are also arranged here.
The Bharati Vidyapeeth has also been a forerunner when it comes to using the digital ecosystem for education. It has deployed a Virtual Classroom System, where several courses taught, directly get uploaded on the portal. The student feedback and testing mechanism is also conducted online. A lot of the administration and student services are provided through this online mechanism. The Bharati Law Review and the IMED (Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development) Journal of Management and Social Research are both available for online versions.
All this, has led to the university accruing excellent rankings across platforms. The NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework) has placed the Bharati Vidyapeeth at 66th rank among all universities in India and the 93rd overall. The engineering college and the one for pharmacy were ranked 83rd and 42nd for their respective categories, also for NIRF. The university has also been proactive enough to open the Vidya Lakshmi portal. This portal helps students get facilitated to timely study loans. The portal is aligned to the Indian Banks Association (IBA).
