72 MonthsDoctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Astronomy and Astrophysics is an offered Full-time three/six-year Doctoral program and it is collaborative programme jointly run with IIA: ISRO and RRI), offered by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
Areas of Research: Observational Astronomy in Radio; Infrared; Optical; X-Ray and Gamma-Ray Wave-Lengths; Plasma Physics; Theoretical Astrophysics; General Relativity and Cosmology and Advanced Instrumentation in Astronomy and Space Science
A candidate must have Master’s degree in Physical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences/ Chemical Sciences or BE / B Tech or equivalent degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Electrical Communication Engineering or Graduates of 4-year Bachelor of Science programmes.
For a Ph D programme in the Science Faculty candidates with ME /M Tech / M Sc(Engg) / MS / Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Agriculture, or Veterinary Medicine will be short-listed for an interview for Ph D programmes based on their academic performance (including their past performance in the national tests like GATE/ JRF/ GPAT in which they have qualified prior to their Master’s degree).
The facilities and infrastructure are good. The hostels are quite decent, Mess food is good, but canteen food has an amazing taste. The mess is clean and served in a hygienic way. The campus has Wi-Fi facilities, the labs are well updated, the classrooms are always clean.
