Since it is one of the oldest and prestigious institutes, it offers a very good number of amenities and facilities overall. Our institute has well-equipped labs with tools and software from National Instruments. Facilities available in the hostel include single rooms for every student of the third and fourth year. There are 3 sharing and 2 sharing rooms for the first and second-year students. Wi-Fi facility is available on the entire campus. Our college has a private beach, a lighthouse, state of the art sports complex and a swimming pool.
Faculty members here are extremely knowledgeable, qualified and dedicated. Practical approaches are followed for teaching. All the faculty members available here include professors and assistant professors. Teaching assistants are well qualified and educated. Every teacher has years of experience in teaching and knows how to treat college students. The course curriculum has improved with time and makes students ready for the industry. But it is quite hectic and still needs to be updated.
I have completed my B.Tech in NITK, ECE department. Placements were good, and almost 90% of the students got placed. Core companies were limited, but many students got placed. The highest salary package offered was 18 LPA. The lowest salary package offered was 6 LPA. Opportunities for internships were more than placements. A lot of good companies like GE, MBRDI, RBEI, Moog India, etc., had visited our campus for placements.
We have good Wi-Fi, a library with good Wi-Fi, air-conditioned facilities, and medical facilities. There is a separate mess for vegetarian and non-vegetarian students. Good facilities for sports are available. A new indoor sports complex is available for basketball, cricket, table tennis, badminton, billiards, and kabaddi.
All the facilities are qualified from recognised universities. Best teacher vs student ratios. Course curriculum makes students ready for industry-level work. Semester exams are medium to difficult level, above 7.5 CGPA is good and above 8.5 is best in our department.
The average salary package offered was 10 LPA for overall UG courses. For computer science and information technology, the average salary package offered was 17 LPA. The highest salary package offered was in between 40 LPA-50 LPA. Overall placements are 100% for computer science and information technology students. NIRF ranking is 13 according to the 2019 index.
NITK holds mainly two fests. One is a technical fest which is hosted in the odd semester, and the other one is a cultural fest hosted in the even semester. Our cultural fest is the largest in South India.
All the hostels and classrooms have Wi-Fi facilities. The library is air-conditioned, and you can go and study there till 3 am. First-year has some timing in hostels, but from 2nd year onwards, there is time limit for girls and no limit time for boys though. In the first year, it's not that good, but from the second year onwards, it will be good. You can't compare it with home food. One thing I miss is the beach.
The teachers are very helpful. Some of them are rude sometimes. If you are late for 5 minutes, then they won't allow you to the class. 75% attendance is necessary depending on the faculty again. Most of the students are learning by themselves. YouTube is a life-saver for engineers. The difficult level is average.
Overall, it's good. In CSE and IT, 100% of placements are available for the last few years. The highest package offered last year was 45 LPA by Microsoft. The average package for all branches is 10.5 LPA and 15-16 LPA for CSE and IT. Many companies visit NITK every year. Last year, the count is 260+. The top recruiting companies are Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, Walmart, Flipkart, Goldman Sachs, and many more. In our course, the main roles offered are software development engineer etc.
Students have to manage both studies and fun wisely.
Everything is good. Facilities are very nice. Food is available in 7 blocks. Veg & non veg mess are available here. In campus food courts, In campus delivery bots are also available. 2-3 restaurants are nearby to campus. Swiggy works here. Library is very nice.
They are qualified, helpful, knowledgeable. Course curriculum is relevant. They teach the courses which would fetch us internship & courses for which future in depth research is possible. Its not too difficult to pass the semester exams. Pass percentage is nearly 98% most of the times.
Most of students are placed. Maybe around 95% of CS/IT students Goldman sachs, Microsoft, Uber, Wells Fargo, Adobe, Arcesium, Visa Inc are top recruiters. Same companies as said above & around 78% SDE Intern, Summer Analyst, placement & internship percentage is so high here.
Everything is good here. Nice fests.
The hostels are just okay. They are not high-class furnished and fully deluxe. There are all the basic facilities available in the hostels. Each student is given one table, one coat, one chair, one Ethernet socket and all the basic facilities.
Faculty members of the ECE department are a bit more strict. There is so much project work, along with weekly lab assignments. Students remain involved in them most of the time. The semester exams are moderate if someone studies from the very first day of the semester.
The placement of the ECE branch at NITK is actually good compared to other NITs. The highest package for the academic year 2023 was 54 LPA. The average package was around 20 LPA. Most of the students get placed in core jobs. But many of them get jobs in the software field as well.
The boys hostels are separately situated from the girls hostels. All the hostels are equipped with all the basic facilities. There is a good wi-fi connection in each and every hostel, along with an Ethernet socket in each room. The mess food is average and you will definitely get bored after 2 or 3 years.
The faculty members of the ECE department are good. They have sound knowledge of their core field. They actually do help all the students with real-time projects. They are always available for students to help them solve their doubts and guide them. It makes students industry-ready.
The placements in the Electronics and Communication Branch at NITK were good for the academic year 2022-2023. The highest package was 54 LPAs. The average package was around 20 LPA. The roles offered to ECE graduates are associate engineer, networking engineer, technical engineer, etc.
The ECE Department has well-equipped labs with modern electronic equipment and Wi-Fi-enabled classrooms with projectors and blackboards. There's also a central library with a vast collection and a dedicated ECE section. Hostel life features some clean and basic hostels with laundry facilities and a common room. There's a healthcare center with qualified medical staff, sports facilities, and a swimming pool.
The professors at NITK are highly qualified. Many have PhDs in their respective fields. The course curriculum is constantly reviewed and updated to stay relevant to the latest advancements in the field of ECE. The exams will be challenging, and the minimum pass percentage will be 20%, but it varies with the respective proof.
In our course, on average, nearly 90% of the students get placed every year. In this academic year, the highest package was 54 LPA and the lowest was around 8 LPA. Many MNCs come to the campus to recruit students; some of them are Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, Ola, etc. All of the students might not get on-campus internships, but around 80% of the students do.
In the first year, students are allotted triple-sharing rooms with separate beds and table chairs, and there is only one fan in the room. Wi-Fi is available in the department as well as on the entire campus. The laboratories are well maintained and have the latest generation of computers with high-core processors. We have two libraries: one is the central library, and the other is an e-library. We can study till 1 a.m. at midnight, and to borrow books, we have to go to the central library. Mess food is quite acceptable, clean, and tastes good. The food court and night canteen are available in the complex and remain open until 2 a.m. All sports facilities are available, as well as a gym on the premises and a swimming pool on the premises.
Yes, teachers are helpful, and the majority of them have advanced degrees from reputable domestic and international universities and colleges. We have well-balanced lab and theory classes with excellent and primarily practical teaching features. Yes, this course fully prepares students for the software industry and is pertinent to the software sector. If you attend classes consistently and dedicate one or two hours a day to studying, passing the semester exam shouldn't be too difficult. In every topic, the passing percentage is close to 20.
In the last two years, 100% of the eligible students have been placed in different companies. The highest package is 57.5 lacs per annum, the lowest package is 10 lacs per annum, the average package is 28.35 lacs per annum, and the median is 28.65 lacs per annum. Some of the top recruiting companies are Oracle, Goggle, Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Citi India, Cisco, Well Fargo, Wall Arts, Qualcomm, and Jio. Around 80 to 85 percent of students get internships every year in these companies only, and many of them also get PPOs or pre-placement offers.
I chose this course because I have been interested in the coding field and computer science engineering from the beginning. It is truly based on modern technology and the technology we use daily. I want to improve some of the courses in the first semester and second semester that are totally irrelevant to the branch. Incident and Engineer are the two important festivals of the college. The campus is not too crowded, and it is connected by all modes of transport.
The college has a decent infrastructure. The old buildings are good but the new buildings are awesome. My department buildings are too old, so it is of decent level. Wi-Fi and other facilities are good. The hostel rooms are good. But the mess food is not so good. There are various sports and medical facilities.
Most of the professors have Ph.D. from top IITs and foreign universities. However, their teaching methodologies are not so good. They are too much boring. Yes, it is relevant up to a level. Semester exams are not so difficult. You can easily get good grades even if you start reading one day before the exam. It is relatively grading so passing marks depend upon the subject.
There are a lot of opportunities during campus placement at NITK, Surathkal. Top recruiting companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, DE Shaw, and Goldman Sachs often visit here. They hire for both software development as well as analyst and consultant roles. Top core companies also visit here. More than 90% of students got placement in my course. The lowest package was 8 LPA, and the highest package was 24 LPA by Wells Fargo. There are very less opportunities during internship season for CS and mining students. The top role offered is analyst, software development, consultant, engineers.
The college has a good NIRF ranking and average placement which is the main reason behind selecting this college.
Before answering this question, let me tell you that I have visited NIT Calicut and my answers will be based on their comparison. The infrastructure and buildings like CIDS and CRF are top modern buildings in NitK. We have a Central Library and a Digital Library. The construction for a new Library is going on and we can soon expect them. The hostels are average. The mess food is okayish. Every hostel has appointed GMC and MC for representing the hostelite and their mess food. So, make sure you voted for them wisely. We have 3-4 Gyms with the latest equipments. Many Sports tournaments are conducted through out the year, both inside and outside the campus. We have a Health Care Centre opposite the main ground. We get prescriptions from there and we also have a pharmacy inside the Health Care Centre.
Even though the Teachers are highly qualified, we have to rely mainly on self study. The course curriculum is advanced and makes the students knowledgeable. There are many Clubs which will help you gain world life experiences. There are clubs for everyone taste and passion.
Around 70% of the students get placed in NitK from CS Engineering candidates. The highest package is 40LPA without the Minor. On taking minor courses the average package will increase. The average package is around 12LPA and the lowest is 5LPA. Many students get internship opportunities and avail Pre Placement Offers before reaching the final year. The minimum requirement for sitting in campus placement interviews is 7 CGPA.
There are many club activities where you can come out of your comfort zones and try something new. There are mainly two massive events which happen all year round.
Hello,
Hope you are doing great.
Answering to your question , Since you haven't specified your category, I'll assume you are a GENERAL category student. With a 99 percentile score in JEE mains, your predicted overall rank is likely to be around 20,460 - 23,000. This puts you in a favorable position for securing admission in some reputable NITs in India.
Considering the previous year JEE mains cutoff, you have good chances of gaining admission to the following colleges:

Hello aspirant,
Hope you are doing great.
As per your question, NO it might not probably not possible to get NIT Suratkal with 87 percentile, To get any NIT you need to score more than 95 percentile. However, remember that cutoffs vary every year depending upon the number of students who give the exam and difficulty level of the exam.
Hope this helps!
