It's Like studying in Heaven with world class infrastructure

Batch of 2018 | Master of Management
This institute fosters knowledge and practical learning by it's world class infrastructure, faculties and conducive environment. Industries give immense respect to this institute for it's mind blowing curriculum structure which includes both practical and scienctific part of education. Particularly Management students get lot of exposure to real world problem solving by doing 3 month internship and 6 month internship as a part of curriculum in corporate. So I would say Department of Management Studies in IISc is a unique course in India which allow students to spend 9 months out of 24 months(Course duration) in real world problem solving projects. Placement opportunities: Another unique thing about Management Department in IISc is that it very likely you will end up with more than 1 job offer because you will get total 3 opportunities for placement- 1. You can get PPO right after your 3 month internship. 2. You can be placed in companies coming for final placements in the begining of 3rd sem. 3. You can get PPO after your 6 month internship in final sem.

IISc is the best college for science students in India, even better than the IITs. I mean just check the college ratings on international standards, The UG program has started quite recently, and the faculty is just amazing in what they work on and their general attitude towards students. Moreover, if you are here, you will definitely have a scholarship and thus affordability is not even a thing to think about. IISc is a launch pad to the international academia society and you will not feel short of opportunities. In addition is the amazing college life. It is situated in northern Bangalore and thus you have access to all facilities, and the rules are flexible enough so that you may enjoy you freedom. The annual cultural and science fest, Pravega, is listed in one of the best fests in the nation and is quite an experience.

IISc is the best place to study science. If you think you want to pursue science in some way or the other in your future then you have to come to this place. The labs and courses offered here are undoubtedly the best in India. It is also the highest ranked institute of India according to most of the world rankings. Apart from this the IISc tag has its own value which I am just beginning to understand. The college crowd is competitive in studies and you will enjoy your life here if you are up for challenges.

A review by undergrad: One of the best Colleges of the World Ranks 99 followed by IIT ' s. The institute has some of the best Faculties of India and World. It had India's best Supercomputer till 2015. In UG Course some of the best experiments are Nobel Prize winning experiments like the measuring the charge of electron by Mullikan. One of my favorite include seeing the helical path of electron in crossed Electric Field and Magnetic Field. Prof. Rohini Godbole from IISc is leading India's participation in making International Linear Collider whichi will be more power full than LHC at CERN. Student crowd in IISc is supported by Student Council which is a power full body in IISc and sits in all important meating of departments, decide Food menu and address major concern of UG including Sports, Security, Language Problem,Minority concerns, etc The college fee is meager with respect to other colleges at Rs 15,000 for one year for UG course. Hostel and mess are very clean and have round the clock Water supply with option of Hot water . Room Rent = 150/month +600/month for water and electricity. Mess Bill= 4000-4500/month depending on Veg or Non-Veg + 600 for water and electricity. You get to choose your mess at the time of admission which include North Indian veg, North Indian Non-Veg, South Indian Veg, South Indian Non-Veg

Simply the best institute in India for basic science.

Batch of 2021 | B.Sc Research in Biology
Our college has the best laboratories of any institute in India. It also has India's fastest supercomputer, Sahasrat, a Cray XC40, for common use. We also have an airstrip on campus. Regular meetings with industry are there to keep our research in line with corporate requirements and outlooks. Great seniors and amiable, down-to-earth professors who are nevertheless the very best in their fields made our days here. The comprehensive if exhausting curriculum considers the holistic academic development of an individual. Our institute via internal scholarships and KVPY/Inspire provides full scholarships to about 95% of it's students. Our hostels are very spacious, regularly cleaned, with world-class toilets. We also have all amenities available in the hostel except television. Campus internet is free but censored, however, personal internet is cheap and easy to obtain. The student crowd is from various regions of India and abroad and from various walks of life. Each of them is excellent in their own way, and their character is very social. Although the undergraduate strength here never exceeds 400, that is an exclusive benefit in its own way - we have one of the most tight-knit communities and ragging-free campuses in India. Lots of professors are researchers of international repute (even Nobel laureates). They are great, approachable teachers - some of them will treat you as an equal; which is something I cannot say for most (any?) other college in India. I have not yet applied for, and hence have not received any placement offers. Although most students here come here to pursue academics, not money.

Freedom and Diversity

IISc is a place that gives us a lot of freedom in the courses we can take. After one and half years we get to choose a major in a subject. Each major has some compulsory courses for it but also the course is light enough so that we can pursue our interests in topics that are different from our major. The hostel facilities are good enough and the students here are quite diverse, giving exposure to a lot of different cultures. The Institute boasts of some awesome faculty The highlight of UG life is the annual Science-Tech-Cultural fest Pravega which is organised by the UG Community together. I began in very recent years and is one of the fastest growing college fests now.

The best place in India to study pure sciences

Prabhat Kumar
Posted on 10 Jan' 17 by Prabhat Kumar
Batch of 2019 | B.Sc Research in Biology
I'll summarise my review in the following ponts: 1. Great place to grow and develop as a budding scientist. World class infrastructure. Separate labs for each department, with par to some of the best universities in the world like Harvard, MIT etc, maybe even better for some departments. All labs equipped with the most sophsticated machinery available. 2. Very nice hostels, cleaning is proper, rooms are good, uniterrupted electrcic and water supply, clean drinking water, good wifi. 3. Faculty the best in their fields, with good teaching methodologies. Most of them distinguished scientists in their respective fields, many scientific papers to their names. 4. Crowd of the students is the cream of the cream, most having attended some international olympiad camps or the other. Very friendly, helping and humble people. 5. No problem of affordability as scholarship of rs 5000 is provided per month, with an additional contingency grant of rs 20,000 per year. No tuition fee, only mess and hostel fee as applicable (under 50,000 , including both) 6. Decent mess food, nutritional, but can get boring after a while (you can sign out of mess and explore other options in campus).

To be an undergrad in a postgrad institute- my life in IISc

IISc for me, was a dream come true. The Institute pushed my boundaries, both academically and otherwise. Being predominantly a postgrad-research institute, it gave me a chance to interact with some of the best scientists in the country. People here like to keep to themselves, and the academic pressures are not as much as in the IITs. There are almost no restrictions, but this freedom can take a toll on some, as not enough monitoring can lead to a slump in academic performance. IISc is unparalleled in terms of location, there are restaurants and malls a stone's throw away. IISc is a treat for nature lovers too! Some of the courses can be quite difficult, and hard work is necessary to survive here. In conclusion, IISc is an inspiring place to study in, as in general, only students interested in research choose to join.

IISc. undoubtably is the best place to do Science. One must know that the place offers a great facuty, great college crowd and healthy atmosphere for learning. The batches graduated over the last few years have gone to some of the best places in the world like Princeton, Harvard, Berkley, Stanford and so on. The course demands hard work and dilligence. Industry exposure is not a plus in this course but the institute is a reputed name in the industry.

This college is amongst the top 30 Asian colleges. It is the best college in Indian for Science and Research, with the best, state-of-the-art facilities, all sorts of Laboratories, of different fields (Physics, Chemistry, Biology., Mathematics) equipment available. The greenery of the campus keeps everyone in a very calm and soothing mood. The infrastructure is also great. Everyone who visits the campus must go see the British architecture style Administrative Office Building. Also, the infrastructure of all the departments is lovely. College life is amazing because of many reasons, the hostel mess food is very good, the hostels are very clean and hygienic and always maintained. We get to live in single rooms, so we get to enjoy our privacy. Also, people here are very nice to work with and talk to. Since it is a Science Institute, it focuses more on Research than placements, though people do have enough opportunities to get placements are really good places. Since we all get scholarships after joining this place, and the fees taken is minimal, it is very affordable to study and stay here.

Best in the country for research

It is very beautiful campus with lot of support for research and studyI was an Outreach Program summer intern at IISc Bangalore in the summer of 2014. It was, without doubt, one of my best internship experiences ever! Rather than focusing solely on the undergraduate life, I would attempt to describe the general vibe of the campus and its pros and cons on an impartial basis: 1.> THE CAMPUS : It is probably the best campus that an Indian college can EVER have. During my stay there, I was personally in love with the campus. The campus being within the city areas of Mathikere and Malleswaram, one feels as if one has entered a hidden paradise! The only other institute in India which can equal the scenic beauty of IISc Bangalore is IIT Guwahati.

A LEVEL BEYOND IMAGINATION

Batch of 2014 | M.Tech Civil Engineering
After completing my degree when I joined the IISc, it was phenomenal change in my thinking and my views. How I used to be and after, what I am is totally a different personality. IISc was that phase of my life which I can mark as a bookmark in my life on which I can say I was different before IISc and better after IISc. I went on to be becoming more responsible, my academic interest were spiked when I entered in IISc, because I never thought I will be interested in research and during my life in there I went on becoming better and improved version of me that even exceeded my limits, since then I have been pushing myself to best. The exposure and academics are so well designed that it will take you to another level a better level of yourself.

Exposure in the field of materials science

Posted on 13 Oct' 15 by Manu S Mohan
Batch of 2009 | M.Tech Materials Engineering
Course work along with project work helped me to grasp many concepts related to material science. The labs have well maintained instruments and all faculty members are experts in their areas. Students publish in highly cited journals and file patents also. The industry institute collaborations often help in technology transfer to the later .The institute hostels are well maintained, the messes offers both south Indian and north Indian cuisines at a subsidized rate. Gymkhana is the place where the students go and workout at the end of day. The institute boasts about having good cricket, football and hockey teams known for their participation in inter college competitions in and around Bangalore .
