The integrated Ph.D. (i-PhD) programme at IISER Pune is aimed at highly motivated students who wish to pursue a career in research. Students with an excellent academic record can apply for the i-PhD programme upon completion of a Bachelors' degree in any branch of science. The course combines curricula for masters and doctorate degrees into a single integrated programme with a blend of course work and research projects. The Mathematics Department of IISER Pune includes strong research groups in all the core areas including Algebra, Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry-Topology and Number Theory.

The first four semesters are dedicated course work specialized in one subject, in combination with research work. This is followed by a doctoral research project. On successful completion, students are awarded both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. degree.

IISER Pune offers modern research laboratories and computational facilities as well as comfortable housing for students. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of seminars, meetings, and workshops, giving them a chance to interact with people from other research organizations within the country and abroad.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A in aggregate for SC, ST and PwBD candidates) in any Bachelor’s degree in related branches satisfying the above criteria of marks can apply.

2. Additionally, the candidate MUST satisfy any ONE of the following criteria:

Appeared for NBHM Master’s scholarship written exam in 2025 and was shortlisted in NBHM Master’s Interview Shortlist (MIS).
Appeared for the JAM 2025 exam in MA or MS only.

Note:

For all the national eligibility examinations which provide a common rank/score, the cut-off rank/score for shortlisting for the Interviews for the reserved categories shall be lowered to 1.25 times the General category rank/score.
The scores/ranks MUST be valid at the time of admission.

Admission Details

Shortlisted applicants will have to clear a two-stage written examination to be held on the IISER Pune campus. Students clearing the written examinations will be called for an online interview.

Candidates who clear the NBHM MIS interview do not have to take the written examination and would be directly invited for the online interview.
