IISER Pune offers Integrated PhD (i-PhD) as a research programme with a blend of coursework (2 years) and research projects. On successful completion, students are awarded both a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D degree. The first four semesters consist of core, elective courses and advanced courses specialised in one subject in combination with research work. The programme offers broad swathe of focus areas, involving both molecular as well as a systems-level understanding of biological systems. It also encourage collaborative and cross-disciplinary research that integrates physical and engineering principles to answer key biological questions.

On successful completion of coursework, related project work and a comprehensive exam, the student continues with the research leading to a PhD. Alternatively, after successful completion of coursework, students have the option of taking an MS exit by performing one additional year of research work as part of their MS thesis.

Eligibility Criteria

Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A in aggregate for SC, ST and PwBD candidates) in any Bachelor’s degree in related branches satisfying the above criteria of marks can apply.

Admission Details

Admission will be based on Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) 2025.
Students also have to go through the interview process which consists of two rounds – an initial screening round and a second interview round, both conducted online.

College Infrastructure

There is smart classroom with comfortable benches and a projector facility. Wi-Fi facility is provided to the students. Canteen of our college is average and the quality of food is good. The hostel food in good and healthy.
