Yes. Phones are allowed to be used in the hostel. But, you are prohibited to carry it to the classes. You'll have to switch it off or enable the silent mode.

From my experience, you should go for VIT University.

The reason for my statement is that VIT will give you better exposure than them, but you will need to work really hard there if you want to do really great.

Placements in SRM are good , but most of the get placed with minimum package.many students get placed with average package of around 3-4 lacs package. Many good companies visit the campus.

From my experience, you should go for SRM University if you are sure to go for CSE.

The reason for my statement is that you may not get any good college for CSE with rank 143000 in JEE Mains.

If you have secured 11,300 rank in SRM, you may or may not get CSE at SRM, Chennai since based on previous year cutoff ranks, the cutoff rank is 10,000. Although, you will easily get CSE at other campuses.

this rank is low to get admission in SRM chennai in CSE branch,but yes you can get aadmission in ECE.

With your rank, ofcourse you can get Mechanical in SRM Main Campus. However, seeing your rank i feel you should opt for IIt,NITs etc.
