Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology, established in 1999, is a constituent college at Suri, West Bengal. BIET has sprawling campus-road coverage of about 30 acres, affiliated with AICTE. The institute offers a number of programs in the engineering field at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The enrolment for students is 1,101, and faculty strength is 55 in number. BIET offers 7 courses in 2 degrees, covering the branches of Engineering. 

BIET has several facilities to aid in the overall development of the students. The campus is provided with well-equipped laboratories for practical training, spacious classrooms with modern amenities, and a central computing facility equipped with high-end computers. More importantly, the institute's library is filled with more than a thousand volumes covering all subjects in the present curriculum, including specialized books meant for GATE preparation. For the comfort of students, BIET has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, equipped with Wi-Fi and generator backup. Inside the campus, there is also a medical unit with doctors available 24/7, sports facilities, and multiple canteens that provide meals at subsidized rates.

The institute offers a total of 7 courses, of which 5 are B.Tech programs and 2 are M.Tech programs. All undergraduate programs offered are full-time courses for 4 years, while postgraduate programs are 2-year full-time courses. The total approved intake for the said courses is 516 seats. 

Admission in BIET is mostly on a merit basis. The college admits candidates for B.Tech courses through JEE conducted by the West Bengal Board of Examination or through JEE Main conducted by the Central Board of Higher Secondary Examination. In the case of M.Tech programs, selection is made on the basis of the GATE score or entrance examination conducted by MAKAUT (WBUT), followed by a personal interview. This institute accepts scores from different entrance examinations like JEE Main, GATE, WB PGET, and WBJEE.
