Masters of Computer Applications (MCA) is a 2-years (four semesters) professional Master’s Degree in computer science awarded in India. The course is designed to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals in the field of Information Technology. It is a postgraduate course that can be taken up after obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree. The MCA program is dedicated to Application Development and thus has more emphasis on the latest programming language and tools to develop better and faster applications. The broad objective of the MCA Programme is to prepare graduate students for productive careers in the software industry and academia by providing an outstanding environment for teaching and research in the core and emerging areas of the discipline.
The Program’s thrust is on giving the students a thorough and sound background in theoretical and application-oriented courses relevant to the fastest software development. Typically, an MCA is a full-time degree course with a duration of three years (six semesters). It covers various aspects of computational theory, programming, algorithm design and optimization, network and database management, etc. As the IT and the software industries are dynamic and fast-growing, all the programs are designed keeping in view the industry. The programs aim at the understanding of the fundamentals of computing among the students so they can compete in the existing global scenario. Students are trained in the fields of Systems Designing, Application Software Development, Enterprise Resource Planning, Computer Networks, System Administration, Web Designing and Development, Database Administration, Data Mining and Warehousing, etc.
Candidates who have passed BCA/Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science Engineering or any other equivalent degree are eligible.
Candidates who have passed B.Sc./B.Com/B.A with Mathematics at 10+2 level or Graduation Level (with additional bridge courses as per the norms of the university) and have obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of reserved categories) in the qualifying exam are also eligible.
Admissions are made on the basis of Punjab MET/Graduation marks.
